Jacob-Sal`s birthstory
I started having contractions on Tuesday March 25th around Midnight. I`d planned to rest and sleep all day Wednesday, but it didn`t work out that way. Around 2am I got up to go to the bathroom and there was golf ball size blood clot. I woke my husband up to see as a witness. I thought maybe it was my mucous plug. I came downstairs and came to this website to see if anyone else was up. No one described their mucous plug as being a dark red giant blood clot. I went to the bathroom again and there was another clot, so we were off to the hospital around 3:30am. In triage they found that I was only 1 centimeter dilated and although the ultra sounds showed that the placenta was still OK, there was blood pooling in the back and they couldn`t figure out where it was coming from. The admitted me to labor and delivery and did not want me to go home. There was a lot of miscommunication at first and a midwife came in not knowing what was going on and she thought I should go home, but the doctors insisted I stay. They started me on pitocin. I was having contractions 2-4 minutes apart all day long. I had a doula helping me, but finally around 6pm I had an epidrual. It was the greatest thing and the guy who gave it to me was so great. They did let my husband stay, he just had to stay sitting down. They upped the pitocin and I went from 2-7 in about 2 hours. Then from 7-10 in another 2 hours. They had to prop one side of my body because the baby`s heart rate dropped a bit and that helped the baby, but made the pain relief leave part of my left side. I started pushing around 2am and by 2:30am the epidrual had worn off almost completely. The last 45 minutes of pushing were in extreme hysterical pain and I wished that epidural had lasted just a little longer because then I would have been able to report that labor wasn`t that bad. In the end the baby came out just fine. The shape of his head was perfect and they said he could not have come down the birth canal anymore perfectly than he did. Even though I had Group B Strep, we were allowed out of the hospital after only one day because I was in labor so long that we had 7 rounds of anitbiotics instead of the required 2, so he should be fine. I tore, so they had to stitch me up and that part of the recovery has not been fun, but a c-section recovery sound like it is a lot worse. I still bleed a lot everytime I move and they still want to check for blood clots. It was never completely determined where the blood clots were coming from, but they seem to stick with the idea that the placenta was starting to detach too early. I`d had only 1 hour of rest going into labor and never got much more in the hospital. They just don`t let you rest in the hospital. It`s kind of ridiculous. My baby is breastfeeding very well, though I am sore. I think I can keep it up though, they say it gets better and so much depends on his position. This website has been so helpful to me and I can`t believe I even made it. I look forward to seeing everyone else through to the end of pregnancy and beyond.
