Ivey`s birthstory

Donovan and I arrived at the hospital at 7:30 for the induction. We got into Labor and Delivery by 7:45, where they made me change and began to monitor my uterine contractions and the baby`s heartbeat. Dr. Edwards had in a C-section that morning, but she came in around 10:00am to check my cervix and begin the induction. I was 4-5cm dilated, 80% effaced, and at -1 station. They inserted the gel, and within about 10 minutes labor began (HARD labor)! I was waiting for the anesthesiologist for a little while to get the epidural, and I finally got it when I was 6-7 cm dilated at 12:00pm. They checked me a little while later but I was still at 6-7 cm dilated. After a while the doctor came in to break my water. The epidural was working nice and I fell asleep, but around 2:00-2:15pm I woke up and was in excruciating pain! My legs were numb from the epidural, but I could feel EVERYTHING in my pelvic region. I couldn`t move because I couldn`t move my legs, so I was squirming in bed trying to get through the contractions. They were the most painful I had ever endured. They had just checked me and anesthesiologist came in and said he would up my epidural, but that I was going to have to get through it because they just checked me and I was still at 6-7 cm dilated. The epidural might cause the labor to slow and might end up in C-section. I told him something was wrong, so they humored me and checked my cervix again. The doctor checked me and told me not to bear down or push because the baby`s head was crowning!!! I had gone from 6-7 cm to fully dilated within minutes, which is why the epidural wasn`t working (it couldn`t catch up with the rate of the contractions). They got the room and bed ready for delivery, had me push, and in less than 3 pushes, we had little Ivey at 2:57pm =) She weighed 6lbs. 11oz. and was 19in. long. As for my recovery, everything went great and I had no tears and there was no need for an episiotomy. Everything was so worth is and Ivey is beautiful Donovan, my mom, Aunt Donna, and Isabelle were at the hospital all day, and Donovan and my mom were in the room when Ivey made her grand appearance. My mother in law Janine called when she arrived at the hospital, and it was right as they were checking my cervix. By the time they showed her to the room, Ivey was just born =)
