Tallulah-Bell`s birthstory

I went in Thursday night for induction with Cervadil because ultrasounds and measurements suggested the baby could be between 10 and 12 pounds if I went to 42 weeks. After 12 hours, I was only dilated 1 cm. and less than 50% effaced (but had severe cramps and contractions every 2 minutes). They then started the Pitocin, which gave me super strong contractions back-to-back, often with less than 60 seconds between them. The Pitocin also caused clumping, which is when I was having as many as 4 contractions right on top of each other with no break. Because I was on the Pitocin, I had to stay in bed and couldn`t walk or use water, After 7 hours, I was finally dilated to 5 cm and they took me off the Pit and let me get in the birthing tub. I alternated between the tub and the shower with music blasting the whole time-phenomenal experience. Even with the Pitocin-induced evil contractions, I labored for another 6 hours with no drugs and thought for sure Lula Bell would be born in the tub! Off the Pitocin, though, my body uterus stopped dilating and my contractions because weaker, and because my water had broken so much earlier in the day and I wasn`t progressing, they said I had to go back on the Pit. They gave me one more hour to get my contractions going on my own--I bounced on the ball, did stripper dances to Tribe Called Quest again th wall of the shower, squats, you name it. The contractions were down to 5 minutes apart and decreasing in strength when I finally had to go back on the Pitocin and after 14 hours of hard labor, I gave in and got the epidural (which didn`t hurt and wasn`t bad). Of course, it only took on one side, so I had another 2 hours of Pit-induced contractions that I fel full-force on the left. Once they fixed the epi, I was dilated to 10 and pushed for 30 minutes. I tore a little, just from the shoulders, but in the end feel amazing! She`s gorgeous and healthy and perfect. I would definitely pursue natural as my first choice again and have no regrets about any of the decisions I made, from the induction to the tub to the epi.
