i woke up early on thursday morning (26th) with mild contractions. by midday they were gone & i went into town to pick up some groceries, but i came home quickly--i just didn't feel right. around 4pm the contractions started again, i took a shower, read a bit (a book about the amish & bill bryson's a walk in the woods), used the contraction counter i found online. by midnight i called the hospital & they told me to come on in. well once there i was only 1cm dilated & fully effaced. i was admitted. i labored all night, read in the jacuzzi tub. in the morning my midwife showed up--i was only 2cm dilated! she broke my water to help speed things along. things did not speed along! my labor progressed very very slowly. i thought i try without pain relief, well, by 11am i couldn't take it any longer. i had already been puking from the pain. so they gave me some nubian, which made me pretty loopy, but helped me relax. at 2:30 pm i was almost 5cm & i got a spinal. thank god! my poor husband--he was by my side the entire time & watching me moan in pain, he was starting to get quite upset....well by 3pm i was fully dilated & ready to push! maddy was kinda contorted & her head was kinda tucked off to the side. i pushed for 3 hours! i tried several different positions. my midwife & labor nurse were so great & my husband kept giving me water and leg rubs...pushing was wonderful though, it felt good to push....she finally arrived @ 6:09pm....her poor little head was all swollen off to the right--a big ol' conehead--it was pretty much gone the next morning. the 24plus hour labor was worse than i thought it would be, it's by far the craziest thing i've ever done....but on the bright side i didn't tear & i have my little sweetie pea!
