Enrique-Rufino-Leyva`s birthstory
It all started with an amnio test on the first of September to make sure my son`s lungs were mature so that we could proceed with the c-section for the next day. I was super nervous about getting the amnio done. Never had it done, and the idea of a big needle getting stuck in my tummy creeped me out. Well anyways, I got it done and it was very uncomfortable, but not too bad. And the test revealed that my little man`s lungs were well developed and we continued with our plans to have the c-section the next day.
Amazingly enough I was able to go to sleep that night. Knowing I had to be at the hospital by 6 in the morning I woke up at 4 to take a shower and get everything ready. I wasn`t even nervous to tell you the truth, I was just ready. I had slept a full 6 hours, the most that I had slept in the last 2 months of pregnancy, and I had everything packed and ready for my 4 day hospital stay.
We got there right at 6 and right off the bat the nurses got me prepped and ready for my c-section, which took about an hour. Then after I was prepped they monitored me for the next hour until it was time for my c-section. To our amazement I was in labor. I was having strong contractions every 4 minutes. But that didn`t matter, I was set to have my c-section in a little bit of time. Right at 8:30 I was taken into the OR for my c-section. And that is where I started to get nervous. The anesthesiologist was having a hard time finding an air pocket in my spine to administer the spinal. He poked me close to 10x trying to get it in the right spot. I was sitting there hunched over for close to a half hour. The poor guy, he was feeling bad for having a hard time. He kept apologizing and was very comforting. He said that he wasn`t going to give up, because if he did then he was going to have to put me under general anesthesia and I would have been knocked out for the whole surgery. I wouldn`t have seen my little man until 2-3 hours after I gave birth. But thankfully he was able to get it done and I was awake and aware of the entire experience.
Once they got started they brought my husband into the OR and set him up to sit next to me. It is always very reasurring to have him by my side. Something happend during this c-section that never happend in my other c-sections. I began to cry. They told me that in about 5 minutes my little man was going to be out and I just began to cry. I was crying cause I was so happy. It had been a crazy year with finding out I was pregnant last September, finding out I miscarried in October, not actually losing my baby until November, and then finding out I was pregnant again at the end of December. It had been a crazy year of ups and downs and I was finally going to have what I had been dreaming of for the longest time. Next thing I know they tell my husband to get ready with the camara and they positioned him where he could get some direct pictures of them taking our baby out. Then I heard my baby cry. I couldn`t stop smiling and thanking Ruben. I would just look at him and tell him I love him and thanked him for everything. It was so beautiful. After that they took my little man to the warmer and I got the first look of my little man. He was soo big. My husband went over and took pictures as they warmed him up and got him cleaned up. Once they got him wrapped up in a blanket they brought him over to me and I finally got to meet my baby. I gave him a big kiss and told him I loved him. The nurse took our camara and my husband took the baby and set up next to me for our first picture together. After that they took him away to do all the necessities to get him cleaned up weighed and what not. My doctor then poceeded to finish up with my c-section and to finish my tubal so to close up my baby making factory. Once that was done I was taken to the recovery room where I stayed for the next hour until I started to regain feeling on my legs again. After an hour I was finally taken to my room where my husband was waiting for me with our baby. He weighed in at 7 lbs. 12 1/2 oz, and 21 inches long. He was the biggest of our three and just a cutie. We decided to name him Enrique Rufino Leyva. He was named after my father-in-law, Enrique, and after my Dad`s eldest brother, Rufino, who had died in when he was a teenager. Baby Rique (that`s what we call him) has been nothing but a joy and a blessing for our family. My family is now complete and my elder boys have welcomed him with wide opened arms. I can truly say I feel complete and incredibly happy with where I`m at in life.
