Tristan-Alexander`s birthstory

I started having contractions about four hours after my dr did a membrane sweep and stretch. He told me then that I was three centimetres dilated and there were bulging forewaters. I went shopping thinking that I had at least 24 hours before anything would happen. I was talking on the phone when I started having contractions, they were about 15 minutes apart still fairly sporadic and so I didn`t rush to hospital, but my husband wanted to make sure we`d get there for pain relief. I was placed on a monitor and the contractions were painful and jumped to about seven minutes apart but with some `extras`. The midwife explained that these less intense ones were Braxton Hicks, but they felt the same to me. On examination I was seven centimetres dilated an hour and a half after we got there, or two and a half hours of labour.
We were shown how to use the gas and air, and then the contractions became more frequent, so I didn`t have time to move around, I felt stuck on the bed side lying, trying to minimise the pain, the gas made me feel sick, so I chewed on the plastic and moaned. Another exam and I was eight centimetres. I had my eyes closed and so I didn`t know what time this was, but shortly after that the contractions were coming on top of one another and my waters broke. It sounded like a big water balloon had been dropped and I started screaming as I had the most incredible pushing urge. My sister went and got a midwife and when she came in she lifted my leg and said `this baby`s got hair!`. I couldn`t believe it, when my waters broke he must have made his descent. I was panting and she gloved and delivered the head (me still on my side) and he had a hand on his shoulder and with the next contraction she delivered them and his body just slipped out. I didn`t push once. He was well, and I cried so bad, just sobbing. It was over as soon as his body was out. No more pain. It felt wonderful knowing he was finally here.
