Jackson-Owen`s birthstory
Sunday night, after having spent most of the holiday weekend bitching and feeling sorry for myself, I had a small dinner of a lowly Mrs Paul`s deviled crab cake sammich. About an hour later, I thought that the stupid sandwich was making me sick, as I was in pretty bad pain. Then I realized, `hey, this pain seems to come and go...` After timing the pains, I realized I was in the early stages of labor. I gave a head`s up to my husband that I would let him know if they started getting any closer together.
About an hour after I started timing the pains, I went to the bathroom and saw blood. I immediately grabbed the phone and called for the doctor. She called back about 10 minutes later and told me to head to the hospital to get checked out. As we drove in, I told my husband, `Watch, it`s just a stupid false alarm and they`ll make me go back home.`
When we got to labor & delivery (after a roundabout way through the ER), I was told that the bleeding was `probably nothing` but they`d keep me under observation for the next two hours, as my blood pressure was up again. During those 2 hours, my pains went from 5-7 minutes apart to about 1-2 minutes apart. They actually were going to send me home (argh!), but my still high blood pressure convinced them to admit me for an induction.
I was then started on Pitocin, but they quickly had to stop it when the baby`s heartrate shot up to dangerous levels. They then gave me an epidural and left me alone for 5 hours... five VERY PAINFUL hours. You see, the anesthesiologist screwed up when he injected me and missed the `hot spot` completely, leaving me with zero relief. So, while my husband snored blissfully away on the futon 10 feet away, I tried as hard as I could to refrain from screaming. Several times I told the nurse that the epidural wasn`t working, and I was told, `No, you`re just feeling pressure.` No, bitch, I know what pressure feels like, and I know what pain feels like... This. Is. Pain. During this time, a resident `accidentally` broke my water, which made the pain even worse. Finally, after 5 hours of begging, the anesthesiologist re-did the epidural, and instant relief was had... along with another complication.
My blood pressure suddenly plummeted to dangerously low levels. I was shaking like I was having a non-stop seizure. It got so bad that, even though I was totally fried mentally, I was afraid to fall asleep. Another anesthesiologist was called in to give me a `boost` of sorts to bring my blood pressure back up. By this point, I was in labor for about 14 hours and was only about 5-6 cm dilated.
At around 11, when 8 went out to procure some snacks, an entire squadron of doctors, nurses and residents came into my room. They informed me that my labor was not progressing well (um, duh?) and that every time they attempted to accelerate the labor, the baby got dangerously stressed out. They told me that there was a chance that I may need a c-section. I was pretty much like `um, okay... if that`s what you gotta do.` Within half an hour, I was getting prepped for the OR.
At 11:55 AM, after about 17 hours of labor, Jackson Owen came into the world (with a shriek of `Oh my God!` from the doctor performing the c-section), weighing in at a very unpetite 10 lbs and 19 inches tall. He has a full head of dark brown hair, beautiful blue eyes, and looks a lot like his daddy. The hardest two hours of my life were the two I spent separated from him when I was in recovery and he was in the nursery.
We just got home about 2 hours ago. Right now I am still in a great deal of pain from the surgery (along with dealing with the loving drainage), but I am just so happy to be home with both of my guys.
