Riley-Eugene-Darcy`s birthstory

I was 10 days overdue and scheduled to be induced at 7am Feb. 9th. The hospital called around 5 am and told us that they didn`t have room for us, don't come in, and to call back later in the day to see if they could fit us in. That was SO dissappointing after being all excited and hardly sleeping the night before. Well, after calling a few times and being told to call later and later I realized that I was already having contractions. At first they were in my back and felt like menstral cramps. When tylenol didn't make them go away and they kept getting a little worse and when I went to the restroom saw that I was spotting, I thought I could actually be having contractions. Jeff and I spent most of the morning trying to keep distracted still thinking we might get called in to be induced(stupid I know). When my contractions started getting stronger and about 3-5 minutes apart we decided we should head to the hospital anyways. As I was about to walk out the door at 2:30 pm I felt a `gush` and knew that my water broke. Riley was coming whether there was room for us or not! We got to the hospital about 3:15 pm and they got us admitted immediatly. (I guess there was room after all).
I got the epidural when I was about 3 cm dialated and after that it was smooth sailing. Too smooth I guess. The nurse had me start pushing around 10:30 pm. Saying the Doctor was about 15 minutes away she had me STOP pushing when he was crowning. Thats when things got rough. I had to NOT push during contractions for about 20 minutes. When the Doc finally got there it only took a couple tries and his head was out. Then one more try and he was fully out! Thats when things got scary.

Riley had pooped in the womb and when he came out he inhaled the meconium and it got in his lungs. Because of that he was having issues breathing and I didn't get to hold him right away. They worked with him for about 30 minutes in the room giving him an oxygen mask and sucking the tarry substance out of his mouth and lungs then they took him to NICU. Of course Jeff needed to go with him and I was left in the room all alone. That was NOT a good feeling. Fortunately Riley started breathing fine on his own just as soon as he got to NICU but they still had to keep him there and monitor him for 4 hours. Because I had the epidural I wasn't able to get up and go see him for a couple hours until I could stand. Those were some of the longest hours of my life!

We are all doing prefectly fine now and got out of the hospital in the afternoon of the 11th. He is so perfect and we are proud proud parents of a beautiful baby boy!!
