Its a bit complicated so bear with me!
I was diagnosed with ICP, and the doc's decided that as I was over 38 weeks (38 plus 1 day) I should be induced. I went in on Friday 22nd Aug and at 11am was given a peccary as my cervix wasn't even thinning. by 8pm they decided to give me another dose. I started to get minor backache and almost pain free contractions, so they gave me a sleeping pill and told me to rest overnight. The next morning I was 1cm dilated, so I was given another peccary dose. The whole time I was having pain free contractions (felt a bit like mild period pain.)
At 5pm the doc examed me and said that my cervix was dilated to 2cm and my waters could be broken. I ate some pasta and then at 6pm went to the delivery suite. At 6:15 pm they ruptured my waters - not a pleasant experiece!! The doc tells me I will be in early labour all night and he will come back in 2 hours to start me on a drip to bring on stronger contractions.
So the doc goes and leaves me with the midwife. 10 mins later I have a very VERY strong contraction, followed by another 5 mins later. They monitored me and said it was all ok and did i want a warm bath and some paracetamols. So I did. Only as I came out of the bath I have a contraction that brough me to my knees in pain. We went and got me hooked up to a tens machine - which helped slightly... by now the contractions are every 3 mins and I'm still being told that this is gonna go on ALL night. So I ask about pain relief. I took some gas and air which made me vomit all my dinner back up!! Then I tell them, I feel awful I need some pethadine. They said, no way until u are 4cm dilated and in active labour!!! I was like ur telling me I'm not even in labour properly yet?!?!?
Anyway, then i'm told that because i had my waters broken, they dont like to examine me until 4 hours after the waters are broken, unless they see any blood. No blood. I got off the bed feeling like i needed the toilet (number 2!) and started to bleed. So told the midwife that I wanted to push and she finally agreed to examine me. She told me I was 9cm!!! She was so shocked( I wasn't) LOL. Then the doc comes back and nearly passes out with shock that I hadn't needed the drip , and could have a natural labour. The catch being that at 9cm I am too late for any pain relief :o(
So at 8:45 i started to push, and at 9:56 Ayden was born. Best feeling ever when he finally came out. Whole labour time 3hrs 45miins. Every one was so shocked.
We are home now and are all very tired. But he is so worth it :o)
