Eden-Amber-Rose`s birthstory
I was in hospital with raised bp and problems at home stressed me out enough to be admitted into hospital. My doctor didn`t want to induce me, as I was having my 7th baby, and he was afraid of hyper stimulating the uterus and me ending up having a c-section because of it. So I waited in hospital, having contractions painful enough to keep me awake and not let me sleep for long, but not doing anything, for the last week of pregnancy, it was the pits. When I was 8 days overdue, I ended up having contractions the night before I had her at 4-5 minutes apart, and they were starting to get more painful, and had more of a bite to them, but I still knew I was not in labour. I went crying to my doctor to induce me, and he reluctantly agreed, making sure I was informed of what could happen, and I agreed, and induction was to start at 8.30am the next morning. Doc gave me a very good stretch and sweep, and contractions started coming after that, but didn`t gather much in strength even till the next morning, they were 3 mins apart but not really strong. Once I was induced with a Prostin gel 1ml, I started straight away into labour, and that was all I needed to kick start my uterus. They took me down to the birthing room at lunchtime when I was in more active labour and I had a bath, sucked on some gas and used the tens machine for back pain, and chatted away to my midwife and a year 12 student from the local high school who wanted to become a midwife. My husband was pretty tired so he went to sleep in the next room on the couch, and Jane my midwife went down to the ward for a few moments, and the year 12 student had to go to work at a local resthome, (she missed the birth), and I was happily sitting on the birth ball, relaxed and breathing through contractions when my waters broke, I called for Jane, and she and Shayne came into the room. I was examined, and was 5-6cms, maybe a 7, and I was actually enjoying the labour, normally at this point, it would of been too sore for my back,(as for those who know me, I have a serious bad back, that has caused me to have agonising labours), but I handled the contractions beautifully, that was until 8-9cms, then all hell broke loose!
I felt her move down, and my back went into spasms, suddenly the pain I could handle before, became white hot! and I was threatening to pass out, as people who spoke to me, sounded like they were in another room and not there with me. My body started to heave her out before a lip of my cervix had fully pulled back, and the doctor had to push that back, while I was having a contraction(very painful!), and also make sure the cord was out of the way, as he needed to break my forewaters, so she could come down further onto the cervix, as she was still high, and the waters that had broken before were the hindwaters. Then Eden`s heartbeat went over 200 beats perminute, I was being prepped for surgery, then the doctor moved me onto the other side of my hip, and her heartrate returned to normal. After the cervix was pushed out of the way, my leg went into spasms as she must of irritated a nerve. She was born after several pushes, I then knew she was big, as I had a hard time pushing her out. After she was born, I lay back and started to fade in and out of consciousness, it was the most painful birth I had ever experienced, but the labour was one of the best, go figure!
I was given pethidine for the after pains, which came on straight away, and I was so thankful for that.
She has been feeding non-stop since I had her, and she likes to sleep more in the afternoon, so I have to try and get some rest then.
I have had a bit of a scare with my health, my right leg has no feeling from the knee down, and they suspect at hospital that it is a dvt(deep vein thrombosis), so I have to have heparin injections into my stomach every day to thin my blood, and I have an ultrasound on Tuesday to see if it is a clot in my leg. I just hope that everything is alright, I will definitely keep you all posted.
Thank you all my friends for caring and commenting on my site, sorry I can`t possibly message you all, but please know, I love and care for you all, and I hope that those with babies are enjoying them totally, those waiting to have their babies, god bless you all.
Love Nic
