Michael-Robert`s birthstory

Due to high blood pressure, I went into the hospital on the evening of Feb 27th to be induced. I was 1cm dilated when I got there. I was given Cervadil to start induction, and a few hours later, started with the mild contractions. Throughout the night, nothing really progressed beyond that point, so I was able to take a shower at 10am (the 28th)and then I was moved into a bigger birthing room. The nurses would only let 2 birth coaches into the room. I started to cry! I wanted my husband, my mom, and my sister. So my mom and sister went back and forth for a while, and when they realized how upset I was, moved me into the bigger room, and let all 3 stay with me through the whole ordeal. Which was great, I needed all of them!
So after my shower & now in the new room, around 11:30am, my doctor came in and she broke my water, and started me on Pitocin. I was given Staydol(sp?) around noon, and I felt drunk and the pain was the same...so I`m not a big fan of that medication. At 1pm, I requested an epidural. They needed to give me a bolus of fluids, so after an hour and a 1/2 of labor, contractions 1 minute apart, I finally got my epi around 2:30pm. I was relaxed for a short time, then started feeling pressure in my back, and in my rectal area around 4:30. I had the nurse check, and he had only come down a little. She said I could start pushing with the contractions since now I could feel them, and at 5:30 checked me again, because I felt so much pressure, like the baby was going to fall out (not literally, but it felt that way), and he had come down significantly. Now the pain of having a bowl movement minus the bowels was excruciating and my back pain was so bad. I had my mother massaging my back during each contraction so hard, she cut her knuckles on all of her fingers, I had her digging so hard. I starting pushing at about 5:50pm, and with each contraction, the baby`s heartrate would drop significantly, so I had to breathe through 2 contractions, then push again, meanwhile I had an oxygen mask on to help bring is heartrate up. After and hour and a 1/2 of pushing, my little Michael was born!!!! Weighing 6pounds 12-1/2 ounces, 20inches long, at 7:23pm. The pain was instantly gone....
My husband cut the baby`s cord, and then he was placed on my belly. I cleaned him off a bit, wished him a Happy Birthday!!! I just stared at him, couldn`t cry, although I wanted to, he was gorgeous :o)

thomas-Christian`s birthstory

Went in on Friday night (9/30) to start my induction due to pre-eclampsia. Got Cervadil at 9:15pm and was crampy throughout the night. I dilated from 1-1/2cm to 3cm 9 hours later. they let me get up at 7am and take a shower, I ate breakfast, then all hell broke loose! The iv they gave me blew, and 10 sticks and 6 medical professionals later, they gave up and called someone from another hospital who specializes in giving mid-lines. 3 hours later I was able to start on iv fluids. turns out b/c I was on restricted fluids and I had pre-clamsia, my veins collapsed. So now that I have the mid-line, they started fluids, Pitocin, and I got my epidural. This was now 11:30am on 10/1. The cramps and contractions came with avengance, including the nausea. I was throwing up, feeling the contractions, and I progressed slow, but then very quickly. I was able to start pushing, on my side, at 9:25pm. I did this til 9:45pm when they rolled me on my back, and at 11:16pm my handsome little boy was born! 7 pounds 13.5 ounces, 20 inches and he`s such a sweet baby!!!! He`s so easy going, and his big brother is soooo in love with him, as my husband and I are, too :o) He was a little jaundice, turns out b/c our blood types clashed, and he came home at 2-1/2 days old. He`s perfect!
