Sebastian-`s birthstory
ok, so as you all know trev and i have just welcomed the birth of our son, sebastian. i thought i would let you all know how it all happened with a birth story!
i was booked in for an induction on 16th feb, this was because of bleeding, high blood pressure, protein in my urine and spd. i would have been 39 weeks and 2 days pregnant. i got to the hospital at about 9.30am...after a lot of waiting around we finally got assessed at about 2pm. i had an examination. to our suprise i was already 2.5cm dilated...so no pessary would be needed. so it would just be my waters broken. then a drip once my labour had established. however, we were then told the hospital was full...they were going to be unable to break my waters as it would of been dangerous to do so with so little staff..so i was to go home and come back the next day for waters to break....however the examination had caused me to bleed and also start with my 10 minute contractions, which were enough to make me go....ouch but not enough to stop me in my tracks. they still sent me home at this point. they said if i went in to labour naturally then all well and good.
so we went to my dads this is because we live like 45 mins from the hospital whereas he lives like 10 mins away so if anything was to happen, we would be able to get to the hosp pretty quick. it was a rough night i was contracting...but not enough for me to warrant going in. however the next day, i felt a little fluid so ended up going in at 12 to the maternity assessment. whilst waiting to be assessed at the hospital...we got a phone call from the same hospital asking us to come in as they had a room waiting for me. well i was already there so that was brill, she just came to the waiting room and took me to my room!!
i was told to go for a wee and put a nightie on. after an examination i was still only about 2.5 - 3cm but well easy enough to break my waters....sooooo after some uncomfy work my waters were broke at 3.35pm. my god there was alot of water.....EVEN the midwife was impressed. we called my mum let her know to make her way over as my waters had been broken. as soon as i got off the bed i was having 4 minute contractions that were HURTING. we took a walk around the hospital ward stopping every 4 minutes to let me cling on to trev and i was making a little noise. we then got back to the room and i started crying. trev did so well to calm me down, he was talking to me throughout the contractions.... telling me to breathe and to focus..we obv didnt know what was happening down belfow but i did know it was really hurting. by 4.15pm my mum arrived. at this point these strong contractions were coming every two minutes....but i had not been examined again because the midwife expected to wait 2 hours to examine me again....well by the time mum arrived i was crying, she was rubbing my back and trev was holding my front... i said i need the midwife and actually shouted out i was a epi - f^&*ing dural which made mum and trev laugh. well the midwife came in roughly about 4.45, she examined me and was like wow our 6 cm nikki thats brilliant and she gave me gas and air which at this point i was well more than happy to take, it was so so bizzare! but apparently i used it really well. she sent off for an aneasatist (sp) Who arrived within a couple of minutes of me being 6cm. however the midwife turned at looked at me at 5pm and said Nikki, do you have pressure in your bottom? like you need to push? well!!! i had been thinking for about 30 secs that i had pressure but i was tripping soooooo bad on my g & a that i could not even lift my hand to tell her...well i managed a nod...she turned quickly to the lady and said we wont be needing you, she is fully dilated. she then turned me to me and said right nicola i need you to listen to me and only me, this baby is ready to come on your next contraction start pushing. so i took the gas and air out my mouth and i spoke to the midwife the whole time i was pushing. asking her if i could push and how hard. i started pushing at about 5.02pm and within 3 pushes baby sebastian was born at 5.05pm weighing in at 7lb 15 oz. no stitches just a minor graze.
