Birth Story:
Well, it all started on Friday afternoon (3/26/10). Probably around 2 p.m. I felt period type cramps. Now I had these cramps off and on the past week or so, but they were more noticable now, but I could ignore them. By 4 p.m. they were more noticable, but nothing to significant...just harder to ignore. We went to dinner that night with my parents and I continued to feel uncomfortable. By 9 p.m. they were now worse and that's about the time we decided to time them...because I started to think - they start and stop I need to see what's going on. The cramping ...um... contractions fluctuated anywhere from 7 - 12 mins apart and they lasted around 40 seconds and were like that til about 2 a.m. It was around 2 a.m. that they became quite uncomfortable and progress to being unable to walk to talk through them. Called my dr. around 3 a.m. because they were around 4 - 6 mins apart. Dr. said to wait about an hour to see what happens and if they continue to go into L&D.... Well, I think we waited 45 mins (they were really hurting) And, I was having some hard bowl movements and was scared I'd push the baby right out into the toilet...I just really wanted to be checked out. So, off we went to L&D. They said I was 1.5 cm dialated and 60% effaced. Well, that wasn't far off from what I was at my OB check Friday morning. I was in L&D for an hour and they sent me home....at contractions that were 3 - 5 min apart!!! The nurse said, that frequency wasn't going to be a good sign for where I was at in labor...but intensity would be. I was like OMG...and with some tears....said it has to hurt more :( It was that or my water had to break. So, off we head back home arriving around 6 a.m. The contractions felt non-stop. I got permission to take a Tylenol PM and tried to get some rest. Then around 8:45 a.m. (thank goodness I was on a hospital type pad) I felt a trickle followed by a gush!! I was feeling so releaved because I couldn't imagine continuing to labor on and on in this pain!! So, I call the Dr. and off we head to L&D.... once in the room the nurse got to see me leaking all over and said there's no doubt that's your water we will be admitting you. YAY, cause I really wanted meds....I don't like pain :( Got a little morphine to take the edge off and about an hour and a half later got my epidural!!! Oh, upon arrival I was 3 cm dialated 100% effaced :) Laboring with an epidural was easy peasy!! I was GBS positive so I had to have penicillian and that hurt bad going through the IV in my hand - ugh!! Anyway, at 8 p.m. I was 10cm and it was time to push!!! It took an hour, but that hour flew by and I made progress with every push, so I felt success with every attempt. I didn't want a mirror but hubby convinced me that it would be okay...and so I did. And, you know what...it was amazing!! Once the dr. came the mirror went away and we were in business. The dr. moved fast with cutting an episomity because the last hour or so of laboring her heartbeat would go down with each contraction, so we were concerned about the umbilical cord being wrapped around something. Sure enough out she comes with the cord around her neck twice. But, thank goodness for a fast acting dr! He got it off very quickly and DH got to cut the cord :) I could not believe it when I could see and heard "it's a GIRL"!!! I would have to say all in all, the labor and delivery of Belle was much easier than I expected :) I'm beyond thrilled!!
