Moshe-Israel`s birthstory
BIRTH STORY:
So
I was up at 4 in the morning on Tuesday December the 4th. Hubby and I
only live about five minutes from the hospital and that was a blessing.
We arrived at the hospital just a little after five that morning. I was
checked in around 5:30 and taken upstairs to labor and delivery shortly
afterwards. I felt extremely welcome right from the get go. My first
nurse (Lindsay) gave us the rundown on everything and I then changed
into my hospital gown. Lindsay left at 7am and I was then greeted by
two more nurses (Pauline and Cecelia). My OB arrived around 8:00 or so
to break my water. I received the pitocin shortly afterwards. Pauline
would come in and ask me about contractions and I was like...I'm having
them??!! I, as did Pauline just grinned from ear to ear. Hubby thought
it was funny too. Hubby and I watched A LOT of Star Trek while I was in
labor. He brought some tapes from home. The birthing room was
INCREDIBLE! So at about 10 or so I started to feel contractions and I
was like, so THAT'S what it feels like. Hubby giggled at me. I asked
for an epidural an hour later because I could tell that it would just
be a later pain I wouldn't be able to tolerate. Hubby believed I could,
but he has MUCH more confidence in me than I do. LOL What they say
about pitocin is true...it brings those contractions much quicker and
harder! That epidural was my friend!! It was a long day and I did well
without the eating. I was only allowed ice chips. I brought food for
hubby but he didn't want to eat in front of me. I told him to just go
ahead and I would be fine. When I drifted off to sleep for about 20
minutes I could hear him in the Pringles! LOL I think it was around 2
or 3 when they stopped the pitocin and they saw that I was contracting
on my own. I was dilating well and everyone just knew that baby was
coming that day! I tell you what though...I could have done without the
dead legs from the epidural. I was told had they kept the pitocin on I
might have Moshe a couple of hours earlier, however...he wouldn't have
been a chanukah baby, so I suppose my body knew exactly what it was
doing. When I reached 8CM, sometime a little after five I believe we
knew we were getting there. So I asked my nurses what does the
insatiable desire to push feel like. They said it felt like having to
have a bowel movement. About 20 minutes later(it was sometime around
6:30 now) after 3 good ones in a row, I had hubby go get them. They
called my OB who was only about a minute down the road doing some
errands and they got my room ready. It was so neat seeing them bring
all this cool stuff in for one little being! So the pushing began and
let me tell you, THAT was the hard part for me. The nurses held my legs
to keep them apart, but I kept trying to bring them back together. I
kept apologizing for it and they told me to not worry about it, it
happens. So when they finally told me to push like I was constipated,
after laughing I did so and what a difference it made! I only pushed
for 20 -30 minutes and they told me for a first time momma, that was
impressive. Everyone also told me what a joy I was during the whole
labor and delivery process. One nurse said she often went home after a
shift covering her ears. I did say damn a few times, but that was in
more frustration with myself than the pain. I told them had it been
about 10 or 15 years ago me having my baby, I would have been one of
those unpleasant ladies they described to me! LOL Finally out he came
and without telling me directly my OB said yep, that's it! She asked if
my hubby wanted to look first and then tell me and all he did was grin
like the cheshire cat! I knew at that instant it was my MOSHE!!!! I
have never seen a look on my hubby's face like I did til the first time
he looked at his son. I cried the moment Moshe hit my tummy and
couldn't believe that we had done that. (I'm about to cry now thinking
about it) So that's it! My birth story! A VERY pleasurable one!! I now
have the most beautiful little boy in the world and I thank G-d for
keeping him safe. Hoping the next one is just as enjoyable. (12-07-2007)
