26/03/08 at 2.00am and there i am in bed breathing through contractions which i thought were just false ones to prepare me, 6.30 and still getting them i go the toilet and have a slight show so tell hubby ok might be real thing. I went downstairs and called the midwives who arrived around 7am at which stage the contractions were strong and every few minutes. i was pacing round my front room whilst hubby got things ready for our homebirth, towels etc. with contractions getting worse i dealt with them by leaning over the birthing ball and breathing well to help deal with it. the gas and air was now on standby and there if needed.
nearly there and on the gas and air (mildly) midwife says breathe it in lol i shout i cnt its not working so they tell hubby to try it nope its not working with a nervous giggle he replied. ( i had warned him previous about him giggling during labour lol ) i reacted by grabbing him on the contraction and saying dont laugh midwives had a good giggle about that. they fixed the gas and air and it helped whilst i pushed him out as soon as he was out my girls heard him cry and wanted to come and c there brother. delivery time 9.20am placenta delivery :11.30 so that makes for a 7 - 9 hour delivery which is abit off the within the hour they said :-).
The girls came in had cuddles etc max was weighed 8lb 3oz but still no sign on placenta wanting out so midwives took me upstairs to deliver placenta so the girls and mark could stay cuddling max downstairs. cathater (dnt know how to spell that lol) but they inserted on to let my wee out so bladder went down and helped the placenta nope didnt work so 1 1/2 after having max they injected me and helped pull out the placenta.
It was my longest labour thank god my last although it was uneventful really and did go as planned except placenta. after all the madness the midwives bathed me and put me to bed with the oldest midwife ( reminded me of my gran ) tucked me in kissed me on the head and said how proud she was of me bless her heart.
the homebirth itself was amazing i wouldnt have wanted it any other was the girls got to be part of it all we had the music channel on and chatting with 3 midwives that were here throughout. it was very chilled and believe that helped me through the pain as i barely touched the gas and air.
