Oliver-David-Smith`s birthstory

On 4th March I had a bloody show and started having contractions every 7-8 minutes from 9am. At 4pm, however, they just stopped. I was booked in at th hospital that evening for an induction, so I went ahead. They gave me a pessary to soften the cervix and next thing I know I`m in complete agony.

After much persuasion, the midwife agreed to let me have some diamorphine, which helped ease the paid a little. However, when the pain was so bad that I was crying my eyes out, she tried to tell me that I wasn`t in labour and that I shouldn`t have any more pain relief until I was. The midwife`s then changed shifts.

As soon as the new midwife was on duty, she came over to me, saw how distressed I was and got me to a delivery room. I had requested an epidural and this was performed without checking how dilated I was, even though this was not the `done thing`. The anaesthetist was lovely and got me sorted straight away.

Just after the epidural was set up, they checked to see how dilated I was. 9cm!!!!! Almost ready! To that midwife who said I wasn`t in labour... F***Y**!

I was able to still feel the contractions slightly and was able to push quite easily, so after about 40 minutes of pushing, out he came. The actual birth was pain free and relatively simple. Welcome Oliver David Smith, born 5th March 2008 4.53pm 7lb2oz
