I had a scheduled induction because I had GD. We went in on Monday, April 28 at 8am. My actual due date was on May 3rd. We chose April 28th because I wanted my OB to deliver my baby and she told me to book that because she was on call that day. Her next on call date was on May 3rd. I would have chosen the May 3rd date since it was my actual due date but she recommended the 28th, she was concerned that the baby might get too big. Anyway, we checked in at 8am and they started the Pitocin at 10am. I was drug free until I was 7cm dilated- which was 13 hours later! Before that, we had tried breathing exercises, positioning, and the birthing tub (which was really nice, but I had to get out after an hour because the nurse couldn't get a good reading on the monitor because the baby kept moving). When I got out of the tub, the doc came in and broke my bag of waters. From then the contractions started to get stronger. at 11pm I could not take it any longer. My hips and lower back was in so much pain. I told the nurse, if this is the worst its gonna get, I think I can try to do it without medication. She looked at me and told that its only gonna get stronger. I had 3 cm to go so I said I wanted the epidural. Oh what a relief that was! I should have known it was going to be painful since I was told at my 13 week appointment that my pelvis was "a little small". Anyway, they had me start pushing at midnight and I pushed for 2 hours! There were some decelerations on the baby's heartrate and they started talking c-section. That freaked me out a little bit. Finally the doc said that it was taking to long, I wasn't progressing and the baby was getting a little stressed. My doc was confident that I could give birth vaginally, but I needed help. So, with the help of a vacuum extraction, my little girl was born at 2:36am Tuesday morning and weighed 7lbs 11oz. If my doc wasn't the one that delivered my baby, it would have been one of the residents and neither one of us wanted that. It turned out it was a record delivery night for my doc. She birthed 9 babies!
