I went to the doctor on Wednesday the 18th at 11:00am. My doctor did a membrane sweep and said "this should send you into labor if not come back tomorrow". So I went home thinking I would be back again the next day. I cleaned some and ran a few errands then decided to rest awhile becuase I was having some cramping. At 3:30 pm I laid down and had a really long bad cramp then I felt this popping sensation (like a water balloon bursting) in my stomach. I thought "oh my god that had to be my water" but nothing came out so I figured I was just being hopeful. About 15 minutes later my boyfriend called and said he was on his way home. He wanted to surprise me by comming home early, taking me out to eat and just spending some time together. I told him about my popping sensation I had and then got off the phone to get ready. As soon as I stood up I had fluid trickle out. I went to the bathroom and it wouldn't stop. Dan got home and I told him I think my water broke for real this time ( we had a false alarm May 27th) and then called my doctor, who told me to come on up to the hospital. I still wasn't sure "if this was it" or if it was a false alarm. I took a shower, we did a few more things around the house stopped at Chipotle (Dan was hungry and last time we waited for 5 hours before we were sent home) and drove up to the hospital. My cramping was getting worse but it just felt like bad menstral cramps. In the car on the way up I felt more fluid come out, then again while we waited for a nurse to check me. She came in examined me and said "there's no doubt your water broke, let's get you to a room." I called my family to let them know and we went to a room at 5:36pm. I was still at 2 cm and my contractions were getting stronger. They put an IV in took some blood and started me on Pitocin. About an hour later the nurse came back checked me and I was at 4cm. Another hour passed and I was begging to get an epidoral because the pain was too much for me.After the epidorial I was completely numb from the bottom of my ribs to my toes. The nurse then inserted a cathader because I no longer could get up on my own. Afterwards the nurse checked my cervix again and I was at 6 cm and the baby was at a zero station, this was around 10:30 pm. The oncall doctor thought for sure I would have her by 2 am. I was thinking wow this is going to be an easy short labor. From 10:30pm until 5 am nothing was happening. I wasn't too worried because I know sometimes the last few cm take awhile to reach. To get the baby to move down the nurse would flip me from side to side everytime she checked my progress or every hour. This was horrible. I could not do it myself and the movement and pressure made me so nausiated I vomited. They just kept increasing my pitocin which caused me to shake all over my body. At about 3 am a fetal moitor was placed on her head and a contraction presssure gage was inserted in my cervix. I was really tired so I slept in between the nurse checks and woke up at about 3:30 am to the fire alarm going off. I was so scared I started crying and shaking more, it took them more than 20 minutes to turn off the alarm. I thought for sure I was going to have to crawl out of the hospital using only my arms. The whole time Dan was tryng to calm me down and he even plugged my ears to help dampen the sound. A smoke detecter had malfunctioned but no one bothered to tell us until after it was turned off. By 5 am I had made it to 7 cm . They had put me on oxygen (her heartbeat kept dropping), an antibiotic because my water had been broken so long , and some fake amniotic fluid because they were afriad her cord was being crushed since I had no fluid left. By 7 am I had made it to 8 cm and when I contracted I was 9 cm but would return to 8 after it was over. She still was at a zero station and would not go lower. They began to mention a c-section might be a possiblity. At 11 am they checked me again and nothing changed, all the time they kept upping the pitocin. They said if nothing happed by 11:30 am they were doing a c-section. They waited until 11:45am checked me and nothing was different. They told me what to expect from th c-section and gave me more powerful antestheia. One of my worst fears was comming true, I absolutely dreaded the idea of a c-section. They wheeled me back to the OR, preped me then let Dan come in. I was shaking so much they strapped my arms to the table. Dan watched as baby Audrey Elizabeth was born at 12:39pm. She was 8lbs 0oz and 19.5 inches long. After 22 long hours and several scares she was finally here! to top it off when I took off the dressing the nurse pointed out that I had several huge blisters on my belly. I had an allergic reaction to the tape they used on my dressing. My doctor told me later on that my pelvis was just not big enough for her. I finally got to leave the hospital monday afternoon with my perfect little baby.
