Owen-Harvey`s birthstory
We got to the hospital Friday AM at 5 as scheduled. The nurse has started me on Oxytocin to induce my labor and all was going well. I was watching the news with Allen in the room and we were excited to know that we would finally be seeing Owen.
About 7 AM the Dr came in and I was still only 1 cm dialated but he said that the baby`s head was low enough that we could break my water. He broke my water and I almost immediately went to being 3 cm dialated.
About 9 the contractions started getting a little heaver and faster so I requested that we start thinking about my epidural and the nurse called Anestesia to have them come down to insert it. Allen held me while the Dr felt around on my back and finally after numerous tries got the epidural inserted in my back. The pains started to fade away and Allen and I went back to watching TV.
I dtarted dialating pretty quickly - for me - and by 1:30 I was 10 cms dialated and ready to start pushing. Well, I was pushing, and pushing and baby wasn`t moving. Around 3:30 the Dr looked at me and said that although we could continue to push - baby was positioned in such a way that it was going to be extremly hard for him to come out. His head was hitting my pelvic bone. He told me that he strongly suggested a C-Section. I looked at Allen - I was sooo tired from all the pushing at this point - I told the Dr that I wanted the C-Section. I knew that every minute counted and I didn`t want to have baby stressed out anymore. We got ready to go down to the Operating Room.
We got down to the OR and I was in so much pain from all the pushing, the epidural wearing off and the hard contractions that were still comming fast as it was time for baby to come out...I had to be given a 2nd dose of the epidural and another pain med through an IV to be able to have the C-section.
I was soooo scared at this point. I have never had surgery before - I really didn`t know what to expect. I got REALLY loopy. I remember the Dr and nurses comming over and holding my hand and them talking to me while I was being prepped for the surgery....but I have no recollection as to what they said to me now!
Allen was finally allowed into the room with me and I remember one of the Dr`s telling me that the surgery was already underway (I wasn`t feeling a thing). I remember holding Allens hand so tight and telling him I was scared and that I couldn`t wait to see the baby.
They brought baby out and onto the cleaning table, and I could only see hands and feet swinging around - it seemed like forever. Allen said `He`s got my blonde hair` and I lost it....I started crying. (I told Allen I wanted the baby to have his hair) I think I got Allen started too as his eyes were welling up a bit.
I finally got to see my son face to face and then the nurses were going to bring him upstairs to clean him off and Allen went with them. My bladder was so swollen from the pushing that they thought they damaged it while in the OR. So we had to have some testing done while I was in there and they fixed everything and got me stiched up. I finally got to go back upstairs to our room at 7:30 and my older sons Ty and Cam were already there to visit me and Owen.
I had a foley catheter in for 2 days as my bladder was weak from the issues we had with surgery - but it came out today and all is functioning well!!! I`m just in a bit of pain from the surgery site but other than that all is well.
