Chase Alexander Bonner was born on his due date - June 18, 2008. I had a slow leak that started on the 17th, but shrugged it off as I didn't want to be one of "those" women. You know...the one that runs to the OB to find out it's NOT amniotic fluid, but urine or sweat instead. I just couldn't handle that disappointment. When I awoke on the 18th and noticed I was still leaking I called the OB. They wanted to see me. The OB said that it did appear to be amniotic fluid leaking and I was in labor. Apparently the lower back pain that I felt all day Tuesday was back labor. The OB stated that I was dilated to 5cm, which was a blessing to hear as I had been stuck at 3cm for over 6 weeks. My OB sent me to the hospital with orders to be induced to reduce the risk of infection that comes with the slow leak. They started my pitocin at 11:30am and approximately one hour later Chase kicked so hard (heard it on the fetal monitor) that he ruptured what was left of the membranes. After 4 hours without pain meds and contractions between 1-2 minutes apart, I requested an injection of Stadol to help with the pain. Two hours after that I was getting no rest between the contractions and requested an epidural. I was 7cm when I requested the epi, and by the time they had administered the epidural I was 9cm. Nonetheless, it did take the edge off! I pushed for over an hour just trying to get the head in the canal. That was the most frustrating part, because I was pushing so hard and not seeing any progress. I was scared that they were going to suggest a c-section. Then the OB saw the problem...Chase was trying to come down with an arm up beside his face. Silly boy wanted to come out like superman! The doctor realigned him and a few pushes later his head crowned. As soon as his head crowned it took one good push to get him out. At 7:59pm Chase made his debut weighing in at 8 lbs 2 oz and 21.75 inches in length.
