nikolas' birth story starts on 9/27/09, the day of the scheduled induction. so 9/27/09 at 8pm i'm admitted into the hospital and i'm taken to my l&d room, at around 8:45 i'm started on a pitocen drip and one of the nurses poked me twice and couldn't get a vain but thankfully another nurse took over and got a vain the first time. well i get checked at 12am and still no change from the 2+ centimeters i've been for the past few wks so they upped the pit drip and said they would check again at 1am. so i get checked again and no change still so they said they would call my doctor and see what she wants to do and when the nurse returns she tells me she is going to insert a pill to soften and dilate my cervix and that the pitocen needs to be turned off. so she turns off the pitocen and tells me she'll be back with the pill which ends up taking her 3hrs to get it so by this time it's 4am and she checks me to seei f i progressed and sure enough i'm dilated 4cm now nd there's no need for the pill. so again she tells me she'll call my doctor and see if she wants the pitocen back on which of course she does but this is where my labor begins to slow. so the pit drip is back on and i got checked at 7am and i'm 4+, i got checked again 12 and i'm 4+ closer to 5cm, then i got checked at 1pm and i'm 6cm and by the time 3pm rolls around i'm 7cm and at 3:30pm my nurse breaks my water to hopefully progress things. well they don't check me until 5:30 and i'm only at 8cm now and they said tat i should have been dilating at least 1cm an hour of the water being broken and how hard my contractions have been even if it's back labor so my doctor's shift is ending so she has to speak to the incoming doctor and that they will discuss my situation and that the next doctor will come in and have a talk with me. by this time i'm kinda freaking out thinking oh my goodness what's wrong with me, why haven't i progressed like i should by nurse reassures me and tells me that i have been doing great with walking around, using the ball, and using the shower to progress my labor. so it's 6pm and the next dr walks and he starts asking how i'm doing then he says " so i've seen you've been doing great with your contraction but youhaven't progressed much and yourcervix is only 70% effaced. well at this point you should be getting close to being fully dilated and you should be fully effaced. i'm gonna check you to see if you have progressed if not we might have to think of another alternative" so he checks me i'm still the same and the words i was dreading come out of his mouth which is that i need a c-section since i haven't progressed and that the baby's head hasn't moved either. so by now it's 6:10 and the anesthesiologist walks in and talks to me about how he's gonna do the epidural and i'm given some papers to sign and i'm wheeled of to the OR. so by 6:15 i'm prepped and they start the surgery and by 6:18 i'm a new mommy. i wait and try to hear my baby cry but i don't hear anything but i'm so loopy from the epidural and from my blood pressure going down that i don't really think about it and i just cry in happiness because my little angel is finally here. finally i hear a cry and moments later they bring my baby to me and i give him a kiss and then they take him to the nursery while they finishing putting me back together. by now i'm wheeled into my post partum room and i have to be monitored for an hour or so to make sure the epidural wears off and what not and then they bring in my baby and give him a bath. when my mom, mothet in law, and hubby walk in my mother in law starts telling me how the baby was blue and lifeless when they took him out of me and how he started turning purple and that they were rubbign him hard and had an oxygen mask on him but that a minute later he cries out and starts turning pink and moving around. of course that scared me half to death and i just held my baby and thanked god that everything turned out ok and that he's alive in my arms breast feeding. the first few nights at the hospital were rough since he would wake up to eat constantly and since i felt helpless after the surgery and my hubby had to do everything after i would finish breast feeding him. so that's his bith story and sorry for the length of it.
