Birth Story
On Monday July 21st I was scheduled for induction at 0730. When I got there they had told me that my cervix needed to be softend a little more before they give me the potasim so they gave me a string to line the cervix to thin it out. I began contracting right away. They first were about 10 min apart and they were mild but uncomfortable. They began to get roughly 6 minutes apart at around 2pm. I had no medication for the contractions and the pain just began to intensify. I had contractions all through the day and i was just being monitored and checked for any change in the cervix. My cervix was not changing but I was contracting so they let me keep contracting to see what will come of them. At 1:00am my water broke and I was dialated to a 7. I recieved an epadural at that time but it had no impact on me what so ever. I continued recieve the strong pain from contractions. I would bite down and grab hold of the bed post as hard as I could until the contraction passed. At 9:00am I was dialated to a 9.5 but still no change in cervix. I was under so much pain and discomfrot I could not even discribe. I felt had at to start pushing around 9:45am, I could not hold back any longer. The nurses told me if I started to push now it would take me 10 hours to push the baby out because my cervix still had no change but they allowed me to push any way to see what would come. I started pushed for almost 3 hours when the Dr. finally came in and said I needed to have a C-section. Since the epidural was not working they gave me 5 injections of liticane and finally went number from just below the breast bone down. Once they got me open they had seen that the babys head was all the way in the birth canal and the feet up under my sternum. The Dr. began to push down on my sternum where I was NOT numb. I couldn`t breath and I then began to vomit. I finally heard the baby cry and knew it was over. I could not hold the baby until 3 hours after I gave birth because I could not stop shaking. I felt pretty good that day after the shakes wore off. I was on a liquid diet that day because of the surgery. The next day my stomach had began to swell greatly, I began feeling neasues and began vomiting. I could not hold anything down for 3 days. My stomach was full of air from begin open too long and my bowels became paralized. I was not able to eat or drink anything for 3 days. The fourth day I attempted liquids and began vomitting yet again. My potassum levels dropped dramatically and had to have potassium in my IV for 2 days. I finally was able to start keeping juice down and broth. I was able to leave the hospital after being there for 6 days. Through all the pain and discomfort I would do it over again just to have my son again. He is a wonderful handsome little man and I cant wait to share my life with him.
