Alexander-(Xander)`s birthstory

I had the most wonderful birth possible. On July 5, 2008 at 7 am to I went to Davis Hospital to get induced. I arrived and got all set up. I was 3.5 cm and 85 % and then I sat and waited.... and waited... and waited. Then at around 915 am the nurse came and got me all hooked up with an IV and pitocin. She explained every step of what she was doing thouroughly as my husband was being a nerd and he just got his emt license and was quizzing her every step of the way ;) Well, the contractions started to increase in frequency but it didn`t really hurt or anything. I played a round of Go Fish with my husband and we we continued to play the waiting game. Around 11:30 I believe it was my Midwife came in and checked me and I had not progressed other than having contractions. He proceeded to break my water and that`s when the fun began. The contractions came on really strong and I doubled over in pain as I realized that I could not force myself to breathe through them and within ten minuets I was getting my epidural (I know, I am a wuss and have come to think that any women who goes through with no medication is a hero in my eyes!) The pain began to ease and I started to feel sleepy. My husband and I took a little nap but the epi started to wear off on the right side of my body. I was about to ask my nurse about it when she came in and checked me... I had progressed from 3.5 and 85 to 10 and 100 in 15 min!!! Yikes! So the anastesiaologist came in to give me a block so I couldn`t feel my right side again. yay. Well... I had progressed, but it still wasnt time to push. Baby was still at -2 station so my nurse recommended that I would relax the best I could while he came down so I wouldn`t have to push as long. Well, I was so relaxed I didn`t even feel like I was in labor. My husband put in Jurassic Park and we began to watch it but 15 min later at 3:15 pm my midwife said we were going to start. Yay!!! I pushed four sets of 3 (yes I pooed myself! gross!!!) and he was right there ready to come out but everytime I took a breathe before my next push, he would go back up so the doc gave me an episiotomy and then used a vac on the 5th and last set of pushes and out came a baby!!! He was a big boy compared to what any of us thought he was going to be. my mw was really surprised he was 8 lbs 9 oz. It was so incredible to hold him for the very first time(though i must admit, my guts on him was so not what i wanted to touch) but I was crying and my husband got teary eyed (though he would deny it). My mom and sister rushed in as soon as they heard his first cry and watched as they cleaned him off. Xander had bruised his nose and around his mouth a little because of the way he came out. He was face up, but lucky everthing went great. He had a little knot in his chord as well, but it didn`t get the chance to tighten so that was safe. He recieved a 9 for his APGAR score and a 10 for his mommy score! My husband and I now have a beautiful baby boy with a head full of black hair and he eats like a champ!!! We are thrilled!!
