Israel-Asa-Lane-F.`s birthstory

Israel Asa Lane Faulkner (Izzy) was born with a full head of hair at 5:45 a.m. on 9/2/09 after about 28 hours of active labor.

He weighed 9lbs 13oz...so 10 pounds! 21.5 inches long (I`m not sure how big his head was, but I know his chest alone was 15).

Anyway, I ended up having to have a c-section after at least 18 - 20 hours of natural labor and about 8 hours of pitocin & pain relief...the doc told me he was huge and he would give me 7-8 more hours to try to get him out. So I decided to get pitocin to make the contractions even stronger...but when the baby is too big, nothing is going to help. The doctor even had alot of trouble getting him out by csection. There was a large nurse that was pushing on the top of my belly to try to get him out, and her feet were actually off of the ground. So probably about 200 pounds of nurse trying to push him out! So csection...not fun. We ended up staying in the hospital until 9/6/09...I wasn`t doing well, and Izzy definitely wasn`t during those days after delivery. He got jaundice and lost about 14% of his body weight (they only want up to 10% body weight loss)...SO we had to start supplementing the breast milk with formula. We got home on Sunday afternoon, to have to go back to the hospital on monday to do a followup blood test to check jaundice rate. Thankfully, it was down and we didn`t have to get readmitted. Then Thursday Izzy had his 1 week pediatrician visit, and he is very healthy...less than a week and he had already gained a pound back...within 4oz of his birth weight. I`m pretty sure that he is already surpassed his birth weight now. He`s HEAVY! ANYWAY, the same day, I had my post-op appointment and learned that my csection had become infected. I didn`t really know what that meant fully, but the doctor was definitely concerned. i had to start some strong antibiotics and had to start throwing away pumped breast milk and feed Izzy formula only...but I`m still pumping so that I`ll still have milk when the meds get out of my system. Oh yeah, I became anemic from losing so much blood from the surgery (they considered giving me blood transfusion but decided it was not completely necessary, so I said that I didn`t want it). So I have to take 3 iron pills a day, two hours before I eat...but my one antibiotic a day can`t be taken within 2 hours of taking iron...so tricky meds!!!

Anyway, a doctor at my clinic saw me the next day, friday, even though the clinic was closed. He had to open the incision up about an inch and i have been having to have a nurse from church come twice a day to pack the wound. I went back to the doctor yesterday, and he said it looked much better but that it still needed to be packed for at least another week. So I enlisted another nurse that I know...and they are taking morning and evening shifts. The doctor said that when he first saw the infection he thought much more than an inch would have to be opened, so he was relieved when he saw it. Anyway, I have to go back to the doc again this thursday (two appointments a week so far...annoying and too much with a newborn)...plus I`m not able to drive until Izzy is 3 weeks old, so I`ve been having to get and accept alot of help.

It has all been worth it though!!! I love my baby Izzy!!!
