Wednesday I had a doctors appointment and I was over due and the doctor was worried about the size of the baby. He asked me to come to Labor and Delivery 8 that next night to have a cervidill (?) and I was not dilated when I went in. I went in they hooked everything up and put in an IV. I hardly emslept cause I was so excited, which was a bad idea on my part. The nurse came in at 5:30 and told me to get up and use the bathroom, freshen up, and relax before they started the pitocin. I still was not dilated by that next morning but my cervix was soft and ready to dilate.
They started the pitocin. It was worse than I expected. The nurse was increasing the dose every half hour but she was doing it little bit at a time cause she knew that I wanted to go as natural as possible. My contractions were 2-3 minutes apart. My conractions were so strong that his heart rate would go down. I was on oxygen for a while. I was in labor for three hours before I accepted medicine, to kill the labor pain. I laughed and began talking to dreams when it hit my system and labor was much easier to take. I feel asleep a little while to a doctor waking me up and telling me I was 4cm. I was in and out for the next hour. Then they decided to break my water.
I only remember two parts about this: 1) I asked if it would hurt, which it didn't. 2) He passed merconium when he was in utero which instantly sobered me up. I would say that if my husband where not as wonderful as he was I don't know what I would have done. But the doc gave me a few more hours to dilate and have him. I was in and out of it again for a while... in pain... pitocin being increased.
The doctor came in and asked me if I wanted an epidural. I gave in and said "yes." The doctor said okay and left. The anethesist came in and gave me the epidural. Didn't feel a thing and was numb from the waste down. At that point I sat up and I felt the urge to push with every contraction. I told the doctor. I laid back down and he checked my cervix wich measured a whopping 9 cm an hour after being 4cm. Then the doctor said it was time to push. I pushed for three hours and the doctor said "I'm sorry I hate to do this. I really don't want to but he is stuck and we need to get him out. We are going to have to do a C-section."
They wheeled me into surgery and I had him at 7:27! The nurses told me two days after that he had passed a bowel so big that it was clumped in his hair and it went everywhere. but everything went well and I was up and on my feet the next night and took a shower the day after that and was released today! James is good and after everything has not suffered from any complications from the meconium movement! He is a wonderful baby and I have a very loving and supporting husband who has helped me through this and with our son, I am very thankful to God for giving me such a loving, caring man and wonderful baby to take care of and love on for the rest of my life. I can hardly wait for another one!
