Natalie-Marie`s birthstory
Just an innocent trip to Walmart at 11am with my 2 year old. My grandmother wanted to buy him some new boots for his birthday that was 2 weeks ago. I had pains, and some other concerns (that I won`t go into) that made me wonder if labor was starting. So my grandma insisted I go to L&D to be checked. I didn`t want to because I didn`t want to be there all day and get sent home. Well, I called and told L&D I was on the way. On the way, I had 3 contractions that hurt so bad I started crying. They started at 11:45am. By the time I got to the hospital, I was in tears, but insisted on walking myself to the 2nd floor. The nurse came in to check and I was 90% and 5cm, having regular contractions every 4 minutes. They let me walk the halls, once my husband, Joe, got there, for about 1 hour from 1pm to 2pm. I walked for 1 hour, having contractions every 2 minutes. I got back and was at 6. I insisted on pain meds, so they got an IV started and gave me something that was wonderful!!! *(for about 20 minutes)... Then they finally got the epidural in at about 4:30pm. The midwife then gave us an estimate that the baby would be born by 6:30, so the smokers in my room could step out and have a cig or two. 10 minutes after the epi, when the smokers were out and my husband was downstairs with them, my blood pressure dropped and I lost memory of what all happened. My grandmothers stayed with me, but it freaked them out!! They pushed 2cc`s of ephedrine to speed up my heart rate, therefore raising my blood pressure to a safe level, and when I finally came to, I had been throwing up some foam-like stuff, was surrounded by nurses, and found out that they had made some type of emergency page over the intercom system about hypotension in L&D #2. They didn`t let me be alone after that. They kept at least one nurse at my side and took blood pressure every 3 minutes for the next hour or so. By this time, I was feeling better and they said contractions were not picking up on the monitor, so we had to put our hands on my belly to feel for them, since I was now numb from the epidural. They decided to check me again and I was 100% and 10cm with baby at +2 station. It was time to push. I started pushing at about 6:15pm and she was born at 6:27pm. Whew. I`m sweating now just remembering those few hours of D-R-A-M-A!!
