Hi
Well, What a mad couple of weeks I have had!
As you know, I went in for an induction on Mon 28th July. I arrived at the hospital at 8pm. We sat there for a couple of hours not really knowing what was happening? I assumed Sean would be able to stay for a bit but he got sent home. The nurse came in, wired me up to the baby heart monitor for an hour. I then got my first Prostin Gel. Woke up next morning at 6am as that didn't work, wired up for another hour and then got my second Prostin Gel inserted. I got a couple of small cramps but nothing much. Sean came over at 12am and I got wired up for the third time and had my third Gel inserted at around 2.30pm. It seemed to have worked straight away!
By 6pm I was contracting every 5 minutes, I had the tens machine put on but I didn't like it at all. I was coping with the pain. I then had a bath run for me by the nurse and laid in there for a couple of hours by which time I was contracting every 2 1/2 minutes. It was painful but my breathing came in useful and the only pain relief the midwife on the ward could offer me was Paracetamol. I got out the bath and she checked me and I was 3cm dialated. At this time, I got wheeled down to central delivery. The pain was getting worse so the midwife gave me a diamorphene injection. I then fell asleep with no pain for a couple of hours. I then woke up at around 12pm suddenly in pain turned on my knees and leant over the bed screaming to Sean I needed to push! He ran outside and grabbed the midwife who said I didn't. I turned over and she checked and I was 8-9cm dialated! She couldn't believe how quick I had gone! She shouted for the other midwife. She said I had no time for painrelief so gave me gas and air. Which I loved! I only pushed for an hour and he was here.
Unfortunately, he had pooed but as my waters broke clear, no one was expecting him to come out covered in poo!
Harrison wasn't screaming and seemed to struggle with his breathing. He had a chest recesion and the pediatrician came in and Harrison was checked. They feared him swallowing and breathing in the poo so got sent straight to special care. I only had a 1 second cuddle and photo. Sean never held him.
He was so ill. He was hooked up to a heart monitor, had a drip, I came down next morning to see him and it was so hard looking at your baby in an incubator! I tried to breast feed but had nothing and because he needed liquids to flush his kidneys out, he had to be put on formula.
Both him and me were in hospital for a week and he struggled feeding. on Wed 6th they said he had a heart murmor but we had that checked on Thurs 7th with the heart specialist who said he was fine. I got to bring him home on the 7th and it was my birthday.
I coped with the birth. I thought it was painful but managed and found the pushing bit not as painful as the contractions!
So, we are just getting settled into a routine. I love him to bits and I can't believe I am a mother!
