Jack's Birth Story (the best that I can recall) ( went from 130lbs-176lbs)
November 8th was my due date. Well that came and went and I was getting bigger and bigger and becoming more of an angry hermit. I never wanted to leave the house or be around people and I couldn't wait to get the little guy out into the world! On my due date I had a dr. appt and she checked me for the first time, I was only maybe 1cm and almost 100% effaced. She stripped my membranes before I even knew what she was going to do, it hurt and there was a lot of bleeding. This was supposed to jump start labor and she told me she didnt think I would make it through the weekend...yeah right! Never again will i let a dr strip my membranes! Tuesday, November 13th (still attending college) I had two papers to do, so I decided to stay up late and finish them. At midnight I finished one of them and was starting to feel a lot of contractions but I have been having them since I was about 5 months so I didn't think too much of it, even though they were a little stronger than usual. I still had one paper to finish but figured on doing it the next day (well that didn't happen!) I went to bed trying not to get too excited just in case. I woke up at 5am in a cold sweat and the contractions were becoming more regular. If you are afraid you won't know when labor has started trust me there is no mistaking these contractions-you'll know. So I just lay in bed for an hour and timed them....about 10-12 minutes apart, plenty of time! At 6am or so I woke up my DH and it was rather comical because i said to him, "hunny just so you know I think i'm in labor but you can go back to sleep for now, haha" I thought i was being nice since i figured it would be hours before we went to the hospital but he's like well how am i supposed to sleep now? so we got our stuff together and made arrangements for our puppy dog. I then decided I needed to straighten up the house and do some laundry haha. I drank a little juice and kept timing my contractions, supposed to call the dr. when they are about every 5 minutes. Well by 7am they were every 4-6 minutes, i was thinking OMG this is happening really fast i can't believe it, it will be a quick delivery....yeah! So Dr called back and said to go to hospital. 8am we got there and it was very busy, we luckily got the last delivery room! They checked me and 100% effaced and only 2cm!! i was so upset...I was determined to do this without medication! So we walked the halls for a little and then i got in and out of the shower a few times...it felt so amazing to stand in the hot water! I was rather annoyed with the nurse since they kept making me lay in bed to monitor the baby instead of being able to stay on my feet. By 6cm i was in a lot of pain and very tired. I was about to give in and get something to take the edge of but nurse said it only makes you sleepy but that's about it. I decided to tough it out a little longer. I progressed about 1cm an hour....even though it hurt it actually went really fast. By 9cm it felt like my whole bottom was about to fall out and i was going to lose control of all the muscles in my lower half (yes all of them..) I didn't take any classes, which i'm OK with but i wish i would have talked to DH more about how to communiate since after about 5cm i couldnt hardly talk since my contractions were coming every 1-2 minutes and some right on top of the other. The nurse commented that I had unusually long contractions and this went on the full 12 hours until he was born. I threw up once after about 6 hours of labor and it was the little bit of gatorade i drank before going to the hospital. And I made sure I kept doing the number two whenever i felt the urge since i was afraid of going on the table...which i didn't! When it was soon time to push the dr finally came and they had me do a few small test pushes which it felt SO good to push! It's actually a little tricky to "direct" the pushing but really it's the same push that you use to empty your bowels...gross i know but that's what you do! During these small pushes my water broke and that actually took off some of the pressure i was feeling. Dr comes over and is telling us how busy he is and that he had to hurry up and get my baby out because he had a scheduled C-section soon...i was like oh great! I was then really upset because he gave me an episiotomy before i even started pushing because he wanted me to hurry up and push my son out! One big push his head started to crown, Dr. wanted me to feel his head but i was too freaked out and just wanted him out. I then became really afraid all of a sudden that the baby would get stuck and was telling them I just couldnt do it. Then two pushes later he was out all the way...piece of cake. Daddy cut the cord and they laid him on my chest so i could say hi then they took him to do his stats and what not. The worst pain ever was after he was born they first had to stitch me up which didnt actually hurt but my lower half was sooooo sensitive i could barely stand to be touched it was like torture, i was practically jumping off the bed each time he touched me. Then they had to keep squeezing my belly which hurt unbelievably bad i was pleading with the dr to stop but he said he had toto get the bleeding to stop. It was scary for a little since it was just gushing out. I was anemic at the end of my pregnancy which makes it worse. I was so dizzy for the next few days but my iron levels were never checked! He was born November 14th (day before my b-day) at 4:59p.m. 7lbs and 18.75 inches. The rest was bliss i was on a natural high from the hormones and family came in to visit. I finally was able to hydrate myself and after getting cleaned up they moved me to a recovery room. I decided to breastfeed so nurses bugged us constantly and i got absolutely no sleep in the hospital at all...i could not wait to go home. My bottom felt so sore...hemorhoids, episiotomy ugh it was not good. After the baby is born you get terrible gas and it hurts to pass it from the hemorhoids and stitches! Ew and lots of blood clots too!The terrible pain lasted maybe a week and then by three weeks post partum i was feeling good enough to run again. Bleeding went on for 6 weeks and stopped for a week and bled again for a week. Got my cycle back for good when my son turned 4 months old. (we are still breastfeeding at 6 months and trying for baby 2) So that is my birth story....Right after his birth i decided i dont know how many more kids i want to go through that again for but time passes and heals all wounds and i'm ready to have more!
