Arleigh-Kate`s birthstory
I went into 39 week appt on Monday April 13th with alot of swelling blood work showed traces of protein. Doc checked me for dilation and baby placement as well as thinning. I was thinned to about 75 Arleigh was at a zero in the birth canal but I was not dilating. The doc then says our best option was gonna to be inducing me because I was not gonna go into labor on my on more than likely. I was not for induction all through my pregnancy but he informed me that Arleigh was ready. So he scheduled the induction for Wednesday April 15th at 6:00 am. We arrived and my blood was drown, Cath and IV were placed. They then took my blood pressure which was elevated. I had been maintaining a good blood pressure all through out the pregnancy but during L & D they could not keep it under control. They then started me on the meds to start the contractions. I was fine for a while then the contractions got pretty intense. the nurse was watching the contractions on the screen at the nurses station and soon came in to ask if I needed my epidural. I said `yes, please`. They came and started the process. There was two of them one being a student which was fine with me. Well it ended up being a bit challenging for the student as well as the anetheseologist. Im not sure exactly how many tries it took them, but it was at least 3. I ended up getting the spinal head ache from the epidural which was not fun at all. To make a long story short I pushed for around 2 1/2 hrs, then the doc ask if he wants me to use forceps or the vaccum even though he is against it. i said ` no, I have pushed this long I will keep pushing. Oh by the way she was face up so that is what made it so hard. And I pushed for about another 10 t0 15 minutes and he then did an episiotomy on me. My husband said it was 3 large cuts. Then My darling baby girl came into the world at 7:59 pm. I never feared L & D the whole pregnancy .My only fear was that I would not be able to breastfeed her. But she latched on and is still breastfeeding till this day. The L & D was more painful than I anticipated but I would do it all over again for her. Then on Friday the peditrician came in and told us they had found a significant heart murmur and were tranferring her to the NICU at childrens hospital. I broke out in tears as well as my husband. I still had a cath in because of all the swelling and so my ob doc came in and siad he was not planning on letting me leave until the swelling went down .however he knew I needed to be with my baby. So he told me that if I could pee w/o the cath in he would discharge me. They took it out and I went immediatly. We were discharged in record time and out the door. I vomited several times on the hour drive to childrens. I was so upset. They kept her at childrens for 5 days. She has a hole in her heart causing the murmur and one of the ventricles of the heart has not formed correctly yet. The cardiologist said they are two heart defects that should over time correct themselves. We just have to make monthly trips to the cardiologist office to make sure everything does correct itself. We brought our baby girl home on April 21st.
