Birth details

Original due date: August 15th 2008
Type of delivery: Vaginal (with pain relief)
Duration of labor: 12 Hours
Weight @ birth: 8 lbs 2.5 Oz
Length @ birth: 21 1/2 inches

I went in on Thursday Morning to be induced at 8am. Brandon met me there and we headed up to room 304. They inserted the Cervadil and I was monitered for 2 hours. Around 3pm the Cervadil fell out with my contractions about 5 min apart and not really that bad. Kim and Amber showed up and we sat around talking, playing rummy and doing crosswords. Around 6 pm the Doctor came in to check me and told me I still wasnt in labor and that they would continue to moniter me until the next morning when they were going to start the pitocin. About an hour later the contractions instantly changed from not so bad to HORRIBLE. I told the nurse and they watched and saw the contractions going from 3-4 min apart and getting stronger. I had originally wanted a water birth so we moved me down to the room. Bad Idea. I was getting extremely snappy because I was sweating and in alot of pain. They started filling up the tub and I said... "I want an Epidural!!!" So they brought me back down to 304 and told me that I needed a bag of fluid in me before they could give me the epidural. That would take about a half an hour but they could give me a medication to take the edge off while I waited. I tried to use the breathing techniques but they didnt really help all that much. The one time the contractions weren't so bad after they started up was while I was vomiting up my dinner because it took my mind off them. The doctor came up to give me the Epi and I felt so drunk on the first medication that I was saying random things to the nurse and the doctor. I got the epidural and it was a huge sigh of relief. Around 7pm they checked my cervix and it was about 3 cm and at 9:30 they checked and it was 8 cm. I was shaking so horribly for the next 8 hours as I went through transition from 8-10. My coaches tried to get a little rest and around 5:45 the doctor checked me and said I was ready to push. Brandon went and got Kim and Amber and they held my legs up while I pushed for about an hour. Julia Kate came into the World on August 29th at 7:05 am Weighing 8lbs 2 1/2 oz. and 21 1/2 inches long. I lost alot of blood afterwards and was really anemic so they kept me overnight a few extra days. Julia was dehydrated because my milk wasnt coming in due to the anemia so they supplemented her after I breastfed until my milk came in Yesterday.
I'm still recovering but my little girl is doing wonderfully!!!
