Hayden-Ma-cai`s birthstory
I went into the hospital on April 2nd at 6am. I was already having labor pains. The doctor broke my water at 8am. I just knew I would give birth by 12pm. The hours ticked by. His heart rate started flucuating. I started to get nervous. They started me on oxytocin. I was at 5cm by 6pm and 5-6cm by 7pm. The labor pains became more intense and were centered in my back. I knew at that moment that the baby was posterior. All of a sudden, the only heart rate we heard nothing but my heart rate. 5 nurses and a couple doctors ran in the room and started working as a team. They stopped the pitocin, played with the machines and put a heart monitor on his head along with a uterine contraction device in my uterus. They gave me oxygen and put me on my side. They were able to find the heart rate and it was back to a normal rhythm. By 9pm, I was still 5-6cm. 10pm, 5-6cm. We knew at that point that he was just stuck. His heart rate only dipped a few times, but recovered so she and I compromised to try 3 different positions for one hour each to try to get him unstuck. I did not want an emergency C section. I had til 1:30am to try to get my cervix to change. Well, the different positions caused the epidural to run to my feet and out because I was sitting up for one position, on my hands and knees for another position, and on my side in a fetal position but tilted towards my stomach for the last position. I could feel pressure in the pelvis along with serious back labor so I was hoping that meant it was working. Well, i asked for the epidural as the pain became too intense to handle. My doc came in and the anethesiologist came in. By then, I was moaning loudly as I felt intense pain in my back and major pressure in my cervix. When the doctor checked, she smiled and said I was complete.... PROBLEM! I am not pushing til that epidural kicks in. They must think I am crazy. I did not ask for a Natural birth. Well, the doctor stopped, looked at me and said `Heidi, you need to get it together!` At that moment, I knew I was about to push with no pain meds. Damn, Damn, Damn!!! is what I was thinking. I started pushing that baby with all that pain, pressure, burning, stinging... Must I go on!!! Anyway, I did 6 long full pushes and got him the heck out of me! The pain was gone as soon as he came out. Probably because the epidural that they gave me at the very end kicked in just in time for me to be stitched. ha ha ha... I am thankful for God keeping his heart beating. I am thankful to my doctor for working with me to have a successful VBAC, I am thankful to my husband and family for the back rubs and coaching through the pain, and I am thankful to Baby Hayden for finally unsticking himself and allowing me to push him out safely. I went from 6cm to 10cm within 35 min after he unstuck himself. All I can say is that he is a beautiful baby. I have experienced an emergency c sect with baby #1, a smooth vbac w/ epidural in baby#2, and the experience of knowing what labor and delivery is without the epidural for the 3rd. I will choose #2 at anytime, but will never do this again. ha ha ha !!!! He is a good baby so far. I hope everyone else has successful births and thank all of you for all the knowledge we shared with one another over the past few months.
