Brynna-Caylen`s birthstory
So, not sure where to start; Last Friday at 9 am, the doctor did a membrane sweep, with the hopes of starting my labour, and set an induction date of two days later (Sunday). I was 3 - 4 cm dialated at the doctor`s appointment. 2 1/2 hours later I was in the hospital and they were saying I was 3 cm and maybe 85% effaced, so they wouldn`t admit me yet, and could only give me Tylenol for pain relief. At 4:30 in the afternoon I was finally admitted, and wanted to try the laughing gas first. That worked fine for about an hour and a half, but then I wanted the IV (Fentanyl). They were really busy that night, so I didn`t end up getting that for another 1 1/2 hours, during which I was in excruciating pain and actually threw up a couple of times. Then I finally got the Fentanyl, but it was only a temporary solution to hold me out until I could get an epidural. You see, the anaesthesiologist had been set to do a c-section at lunch, and finally showed up at 9:30 pm to do that, so I got my epidural at about 10:30 pm. From there, it was pretty good, I relaxed and my labour finally progrtessed much better (I`d been stalling a lot), and I started pushing at about 3 am. 1 1/2 hours later, they felt she wasn`t moving down anymore, so they got out the forceps and she was born about 13 minutes later, weighing almost 9 lb. Then I had 30 minutes of having second-degree tears stitched up.
The hospital was mostly good, but they kept her for 4 days because she had a little bit of jaundice and they felt I should have had a milk supply already at 2 1/2 days, so they made me supplement with formula and pump and take drugs to bring in milk supply. I am still so PO about that! Plus there was a really horrible nurse one day who had me crying for like 3 hours after yelling at me.
But she is SO cute! At first I couldn`t believe that she was mine, that she was half me and half my husband, but by the time we left the hospital it had managed to get through to me, and now I`m loving it. She has a full head of brown hair (mine`s naturally blonde), big eyes, and is becoming more and more active all the time. The supplementing pretty much went out the window within 5 hours of us getting home - she started refusing to take the cup we were using, and wants only me, but that`s working out fine, stupid nurses and doctor! I can`t wait to introduce her to all the cool things in this world!
