Carter-James`s birthstory
I was scheduled to be induced on June 16th, 4 days before my true due date. My husband and I got to the hospital at 8:00 am I was in my room and hooked up to monitors by about 9:00 am. I was given a pill to soften my cervix and within a few minutes, I started to have contractions. After 4 hours, I was checked to see how I progressing and they determined to give me another pill. I was having contractions every 2-3 minutes. Pitossin was started and the contractions started to get intense and remain pretty close together. Unfortunately, I was still not progressing/dialating. At 10:00 pm my doctor decided that the contractions were occuring too often and was worried about causing the baby stress. She determined that they should stop the potossin and let both baby and I rest up until the morning.
I continued to have contractions until about 3:00 am. At 5:30 am, the nurse came in and started me on pitossin again. My contractions started right away and again occurred every 2-3 minutes. I was checked at 8:00 by my doctor and she decided to break my water. I was still only about 2-3 cm dialated. The pain started to get pretty intense, so I asked for an epidural at 10:0 am. I was about 3-4 cm at this point. By 10:30 my epidural was in place and I was feeling awesome!!!! About 20 minutes later, I was starting to feel pressure. I was checked and determined to be dialated to 9. Holy cow! I went from 3-4 to 9 in 20 minutes. My doctor was called and I was told not to push and wait for her. Within minutes of her being in the room, I was pushing. Three contractions later (about 10 pushes...counts of 10) my baby Carter James was born.
If any of you are considering the epidural, I highly recommend it! With my first two deliveries, the epidurals did not work/take and my deliveries were so much harder. With this one, the epidural worked like a charm and I even managed to laugh while I was pushing. I was in such shock of how good the epidural made delivery.
Carter is doing well. He is nursing like a starved little man. I am hugely engorged. My milk came in two days after he was born and I am in pain. Icing myself and having to pump before he can even nurse. I probably have enough milk to feed three babies.
