Maya`s birthstory

On Tuesday 29th April I had a growth scan at the hospital, they noticed the amount of fluid surrounding the baby had decreased since the last time but thought it was nothing to worry about so they monitored us for about an hour. They decided that my waters weren`t leaking but to keep an eye out and come in if I didn`t feel `right`.

The next day I went shopping and kept feeling really `damp` down there! I thought I was just being paranoid and it was probably just the increased discharge that comes with pregnancy (sorry if thats a little bit too much info!!! lol). But I was really worried so I went home and decided to sleep on it and see how I felt in the morning.

Thursday morning came and I just couldn`t decide whether to ring the hospital or not because I knew they would make me go in and its aaages away...plus I thought they would just think I was overreacting. But anyway, in the end I thought better safe than sorry so I rang them and they had me go over there. I was monitored for a while and had to spend the whole day there with them checking pads I was wearing to check for evidence of my waters breaking. They said they couldn`t really see anything, it was probably discharge, they nearly sent me home!!!.. But they decided I could stay there overnight and have a scan to check the levels in the morning.

Friday morning I went down for my scan, pretty convinced that I would be told everything was fine. The ultrasound tech didn't really give that much away, just that the level of fluid had decreased since last time, and that she had decided to turn breech (after being head down since 20 weeks!) but she was saying things like oooh your 35 weeks, I wonder if she will turn on not before you are full term? So that made me think that I would be going home! I went back to the ward and packed all my stuff ready to go home...

The doctor came and said `you`re going to have your baby today!` I was so shocked!!! I just looked at her and said 'pardon?!' lol. She went on to explain that there was hardley any water left around the baby, so it was safer for us both to deliver her as soon as possible, and due to her being breech I was going to need a c-section. I rang my fiance at work and he came over to the hospital. It really didn't sink in at all, I wasn't nervous because I just didn't think it would happen!

We waited for ages and eventually I was wheeled down to theatre in a sexy hospital gown. I was put on a bed/table and had a spinal block put in. The area was numbed with local anesthetic first (which killllled!) but I didn`t feel the spinal block go in.
When it started to work they used a pin to check how numb I was, it was such a wierd feeling!
Then I went into the theatre room and my fiance was waiting for me in his scrubs...they looked sooo nice hehe!!!! I wouldn't have minded bringing those home with us ;-)

As they did the c-secction I could feel lots of pulling and tugging! The spinal block made me shake like mad and I felt soooo spaced out I could hardley keep my eyes open! I felt a lot of pressure and a huge tug and James said omg she`s here!!! So at 7.14pm baby Maya was born! They pulled her out and quickly showed her to me before handing her over to the doctor to make sure she was ok. I started crying but couldn't stop grinning!!! The first thing I asked was 'is she definitely a girl?!' lol.

James went over to be with her while I was stitched up. He came back over to me and said omg she`s beautiful! They held her in front of me to say hello, I gave her a kiss and she was taken off to the special care baby unit, James went with her and I went off to recovery where I was injected with allsorts of lovely painkillers and my bloodpressure was moitored for ages because it went a bit crazy lol.

I was taken up to my ward and James was there waiting for me. After a while he went down to special care to see our baby, I told him to bring me a picture up but he came back and told me she was coming up to me in an hour!

We were in hospital for 6 verrry longggg days and now we are home!
