Avah`s birthstory

my water broke as soon as my hubby walked in the door from work sunday at 5pm. (the day before my induction). i noticed there was meconium in the fluid. once at the hospital they decided that they would start my contractions for me with oxytocin. when they checked my cervix i was only 1cm dialted. as time went on the contractions got stronger. at midnight i was asking for some kind of pain relief. (6 hours after having the drip started) i was still only 1cm dialated so they gave me a shot of morphine in my butt. i was allowed to get up an walk around at this point to try and get things moving and to hopefully help with the back pain. i walked for an hour then they wanted to hook me back up to the monitors so i had to lay down and that started the back labour all over again. at 2am i was asking for an epidural and i was then 2cm so they let me have it because i was in so much pain. They had trouble getting the epi cathader in so it didn't work. Since it didn't work they let me have the gas. It helped a bit- more to make me floaty than the get rid of the pain. At around 5am i was asking for them to call the guy back and try the epidural again. he had the same problems and for the second time it did not work. He said another guy starts at 7am and maybe he would have better luck getting it to work.. so i had to wait 2 more hours... in the meantime i sucked back the gas for every contraction. They gave me another shot of morphine to help. so the guy came in shortly after 7 to give me the epidural. THIS TIME IT WORKED! i was sooooooo thankful! about 20 minutes after the epi i was saying i needed to push. but i was only 8cm so i couldn't. By 8am i was saying i had to push and i couldn't hold it in so they examined me again and i was 10! after an hour of pushing she was here! she was born at 9:08am. I needed 3 stitches.

She was not breathing when she came out and she was blue. they had to use the bag to give her oxygen. my husband and i were freaking out asking why she wasnt crying.. after about 3 minutes we heard her first cry. it was such a relief. they had to suction her out really well.

About an hour later i fed and burped her then 5 minutes later she started going blue again so i called for a nurse. they rushed her to the NICU. in the next 5 hours she had stopped breathing 18 times. she was taken to another hospital where they could do more testing. they pumped her stomach out and got 20cc's of meconium and other junk. Once her stomach was pumped she didn't have another episode. they kept her in NICU for 2 days just to monitor her. Wednesday afternoon we were able to take her home and she is breathing fine now

Alexa`s birthstory

Had a foley catheder put in the night before. went in to the hospital at 7:30 to be induced.i was having irregular contractions on my own every 4-6 min. i was 4cm dilated when the doc checked me at 10:15 and she broke my water. They started me on oxytocin to bring my contractions more intense and regular. I asked for an epidural by 12:30. he couldnt come up for 1 1/2 hours. so they gave me some gas which didn`t help it just made me feel loopy. Around 1:30 they gave me some morphine- i was still only 4cm. The guy came to do the Epidural at 2. he was about to administer the `small test doasge` and i said i had a lot of pressure and had to push. The nurse quickly checked me and said i was 10. Everyone scrambled to get the doc in the room and everything ready since i went from 4cm-10 in 45 minutes. My husband had went out for a smoke since i was getting the epi and he couldn t be in there. i was saying `where is my husband someone find him`. he heard me as he got off the elevator and came running. He didnt even get his jacket off and i was pushing. I pushed for 3 whole minutes and there she was! The cord was around her neck 3 times loosely so they had to cut it from her before i could push her out totally. They had to bag her to get her to breathe at first. Which was a total flashback to Avah and i started crying. But then she let out a little tiny cry and all was well. they continued to suction her out but she just didn;t want to cry much. I had a 2nd degree tear again but only needed 1 stitch this time.
