I cruised through the pregnancy and felt fine, just tired. On my due date I had a massive show-clear mucus mixed with green and red streaks. for the next 6 days I had no signs that labor was going to happen. On the 7th day I felt a little sick with an upset tummy and loose bowels. No other signs at all. No further discharge. Went out for dinner to the mother-in-law's house and shortly after I started to feel clammy and was having pain but not timing them. I jumped into her shower and felt worse, crawled my way out of the bathroom and down the hallway calling out for someone to help me. MIL told hubby to get me to the hospital straight away, I was spaced out, remember the car ride and every little bump in the road, ouch! When we arrived at the hospital I was 4 cm and began breathing the nitrous oxide for pain relief. I was sitting on the delivery bed and didn't realise I was allowed to walk around/change position so I sat there and suffered for a few hours... My hubby was beside me the whole time and very supportive. My membranes were ruptured by the OB at about midnight and not long after I started pushing. The burning perineum is impossible to forget... and when he was finally born at 1:26am he had the most astonishing cone head! but everything was perfect and he was immediately rooting for the breast.

Original due date: September 9
Type of delivery: Vaginal (without pain relief)
Duration of labor: 7 hours
Weight @ birth: 3280g 7lb 4oz
Length @ birth: 50cm
I woke on the morning of my due date with some light menstrual type cramps and tightenings about every 15 mins apart, and these continued all through the day, my mother in law insisted I attend the hospital and just get checked as the contractions were getting more painful but still about 10-15 mins apart. 2 weeks prior I had lost my mucus plug.
2 cm dilated and -2 station, I was given paracetamol/codeine and a sleeping tablet and told to go home and rest. over night the contractions slowed to half hourly but became more painful. managed to get a little sleep, walked around 2 blocks with hubby early that morning, then he went to work and my sister came around to stay with me. contractions were varying from 5 mins to 10 mins apart, I figured I was in latent early labour and when the contractions were nearly unbearable I would head off to hospital.
And we did that, around lunch time and I was checked to be 3 cm and 'paper thin' cervix. which I was told meant things could progress very fast. Hubby was called from work and promptly arrived an hour later. I began using the nitrous oxide to help breath through the contractions. I was very active, changing positions constantly trying to find something comfortable but to no avail. An IV was inserted as I was GBS positive and needed antibiotics. This was tempting me to have some pethidine but I thought I would try my best not to have anything.
The pressure 'down there' began to mount with each contraction, eventually the most comfortable position that took the pressure off was sitting upright in the bed. This position was also good use of gravity and not long after I felt uncontrollable urge to push. initially I fought it because I was paranoid I was using my bowels but it was so painful I didnt care if I did a poo, I just had to push! about 4 or 5 good pushes and he was out. the midwife broke my waters on about the second push. The shoulders hurt more than the head coming out. He was placed straight up onto my chest, cord clamped and cut by daddy. Within 8 mins the placenta was out and it was all over. Total active labour estimated at 7 hours. The midwives at the mercy hospital for women was magnificent, I was very happy, I didn't require any doctors to be present at any stage.
Our beautiful boy began rooting for the breast within 30 mins and is a magnificent feeder.

*Birth Story*
I was having braxton hicks/early labour contractions 10-20 minutely which began wednesday night and kept me awake, continued thursday but were too irregular to go into hospital, plus not quite painful enough. thursday night was a shocker- same contractions keeping me awake but not regular and too far apart, lots of diarrhea. friday morning I went into the hospital to get checked and was 2-3m and not completely effaced. went home with panadeine forte and sleeping tablets and slept for an hour. lots of rest and irregular contractions at home. They started to get more painful around 6pm and were about 7 mins apart. I was checked and 3-4 cm and still not completely effaced. The midwife sent me home with more pain killers and more sleeping tablets (!) and said `your not in labor` I was bawling because everyone who has ever been in a car having contractions knows how painful the car trip is and I was told I had to go home and wait it out. I just could not fathom going in the car again! But I did and we got home and I attempted to sleep. My hubby and MIL fell asleep and the house was peaceful except for me up and down trying to breath through contractions and timing them waiting until I would be allowed to go back to hospital and not be sent home again...
They were about 6 mins apart and so painful I had to go. I woke my husband and we left for the hospital about 1.30am. When we arrived I was immediately given an IV and antibiotics for the GBS positive and checked- 4-5cm- and began using the gas. I began vomiting from the nitrous so the nurse offered me some maxalon and also some pethidine. I probably could have done without it but agreed to have some to take the edge off and relax between contractions. Well it was amazing I was feeling great and despite continued vomiting I was geting through it easily. My waters had begun leaking during one of my vomiting episodes and they were concerned they had meconium in them so I had to be monitored through the rest of the labor. Baby was doing great, contractions were coming 3-4 minutely. about 4.50am I started to feel a little pressure and began to push at the end of my contractions. I literally felt my cervix open that last centimetre and his head enter the birth canal. It is amazing. then the burning began, within one or two contractions I had delivered my baby and lifted him up onto my own chest, with help from my sister. Hubby stayed at my head holding my hand. everything seemed so surreal and it had gone so quickly after such a long drawn out early labour. He looked a lot like his brother. apgars 9 and 10. Such a relief for the contractions to finally stop! Almost immediately he was looking for the breast. Two nights in hospital and now we are home so the fun can begin!!
