I woke up September 14 and noticed my water may have broke. But it was an extremely slow trickle and I wasn't sure if it was my water- knowing that there's increased fluids toward the end of pregnancy. So naturely, I logged onto this website to ask other mommies to be what they thought. Most said go to the dr, but others said they went to the hosptial with the same symptoms and it was nothing- just discharge and some urine. Instead of going to the hospital, I hung around the house to wait for any changes- like contractions!!! No changes ever happened, but luckily someone told me to check my temperature to see if I had any infections going on. I was 101 deg F! There was only 2 more hours for my fiance to get home, so I waited for him. I checked my temp again and it still said I was 101. So he got cleaned up and we made our way to the hospital, stopping at taco bell on the way! When we got there they took my temperature there and it said that I was 98.6??? strange. So I thought great my thermometer is broke and I came here for nothing and look like an idiot! They did a test to see if my water had broke, and it had! I wasn't crazy after all! The baby was so active he broke his water prematurely which is why I didn't go into labor. I wasn't dilated or effaced. The dr's started inducing me around midnight and I started out getting stadol for the pain. At 4:30am and only dilating 1 cm (after hours of horrible pain) I got my epidural. At around 8am I was checked again and still only 1 cm. The dr's didn't want to check to often on my progress since my water had broke, but at 11 my mom insisted the dr's check again because of her labor experience. And holy crap my mom was right, I went from 1 cm to 8.5 in a matter of a few short hours. I started pushing at around noon and after 45 minutes of the baby almost coming out, I had to have an episiotomy. I was getting frustrated bc the dr kept saying one more push, then I'd push-nothing. Then she'd say one more push- again nothing! This went on for way too long! Before I started pushing the dr asked if it would be ok to have a couple med students and a pharmacist witness the birth. I said sure, no big deal just a couple people. Well, the entire time I was pushing I kept hearing the door open with people pooring in. By the time he came out at 12:50pm there was an entire audience. I had people I didn't know holding my legs back for me!! My mom had been pushed to the back corner from all the people! He was a healthy 8 lbs 7 oz and 20 inches long! The dr's said he was big for his size and made us stay for 48 hrs while the stuck him nonstop checking for diabetes. I think that was a little over kill. But he's here, happy, and healthy!!!
