Sahanashri-Panickker`s birthstory

They induced me with cerviprime gel at 6 AM and i waited for my cervix to dialate. after about 6 hours and 2 doses of cerviprime gel, the doc noted that i was not dialating and the baby`s heartbeat was very high. so i was given 10 mins to get into the operating theater for a c section. hardly enough time to tell my husband how much i loved him and what he meant to me. I also had no idea if it was a baby girl or a baby boy i carried and i so badly wanted to know that.

They gave me General Anesthesia. It did not take off well. I was aware of the pain on the incision, the baby being delivered and the placenta being pulled out. the pain was excruciating. i couldnt react to it though. and when the baby was out, i asked the doc if i had carried a baby girl or a baby boy and she was really surprised as she answered me.

anyways. they finally brought my daughter to me at 8 pm. I died from waiting to set my sights on her. and the most adorable bundle of joy arrived at my side at 8.00 PM. will never forget what she looked like when i saw her for the first time. :)

anyways, the next day, i noticed she looked yellow and told the doc about it. he brushed it aside as normal and did not so much as check her out. 2 days later, she seemed to be looking worse and i stubbornly asked him to check her bilirubin count and they figured her count was high and she needed to be under the bilights for atleast 5 days. i hated them for their callousness. had they paid attention the very first day, she would have had to stay away from me for much lesser. And, she lost weight like no mans business. when she was discharged 10 days later, she weighted only 2.7 kgs. the people in the neo natal icu hardly fed her and started her on formula without my permission. they did not even do a good job of the formula. gave her one fourth the quantity she should have been given. she kept losing weight and no one seemed concerned. i finally went hysteric and insisted on a second opinion and my fears were all confirmed.

we have shifted pediatricians now. but i am left with a very bitter taste in my mouth. am thinking of suing the hospital for what they put my child through.

The ordeal lasted 10 days. We finally got back home this wednesday. And am now working on getting her to put on some weight. But of course, all`s well that ends well and we are truly grateful to god for having been with us through it all and to have seen us through it.
