We checked into the hospital the evening of Monday March 24, we were so excited that after 9 long months of worrying we were finally going to hold our baby in our arms. I was already having very mild contractions the nurse could see on the monitor but wasn't dialated or anything. At 14 weeks I had a cerclage and at 37 weeks it had been removed but my cervix would not open on it's own. They inserted cervidil to try and soften my cervix. By Tuesday morning they removed the cervidil but it had not helped to ripen the cervix. Tuesday I started on pitocin which made the contractions a little stronger but still did not get labor going. The dr had come in to check me a couple of times and the last time she mentioned that looked like they may have to send me home and wait a day or two before trying again. The dr left the room and I told my husband there is no way i'm leaving here without a baby. I get to this point to turn around and go home. Finally around 3:45 my dr came in and decided to try and open my cervix herself to get labor going. In doing that she opened the cervix and broke my water at the same time. Thank goodness labor had begun and I didn't have to go home without having my baby. When the dr broke my water it put me into hard labor immediately and I was right away 3 cm. The contractions were pretty painful so I decided being only 3 cm and labor having just begun I would get an epidurel thinking I would be there a while and didn't want to be in pain. They came in and gave me the epidurel. Immediately after the epidurel the nurse seemed a little concerned about something but she never said anything to me. She had me turn on my side and then move to the other side. She called the dr back in and that is when I found out my blood pressure and the baby's had dropped very low. Well thank God they got that back up and things settled down. Within a few minutes I was feeling pressure and asked the nurse if they could check me, after having 3 kids before I just knew something was going on. They came in and checked me and that quick I had jumped from 3 to being almost fully dialated. They called the dr back in and started to prepare me to push. For some reason within a few minutes I dropped back to 6 7 cm. Well again, a few more minutes passed and I asked the nurse again to check me because I felt different and could feel more pressure and now I was fully dialated again. I was ready to push, I pushed a couple of times and the dr put the mirror down at the foot of the bed so I could see the baby's head which encouraged me to push harder seeing how close I was to having him. Just a few more pushes and it was 4:38 and out came our precious little Jeffrey. We are both so in love with him. He is the little miracle baby we thought we would never have.
