Nolan-Anders`s birthstory
I went in on Sunday the 14th to start my induction. They placed the Cervidil and we started the pitocin Monday morning at 5am. My husband and I walked around for about an hour or so to kick start my contractions, which it definitely did because my contractions were now about 3-4 minutes apart and were fairly strong.
We decided to sit down for a little bit because my back was starting to ache. It was approximately 8am, and we were going to play a game of cards. Before we even really got the card game started, my water broke. It was definitely a surprise, because I felt Nolan kick a little, and than I heard this POPPING noise and I said, `what was that?` and than I felt my water gush out all over the floor. So I got up and cleaned off my legs, and changed into a hospital gown and called the nurse in. She hooked me back up to the monitors and just said to relax a bit because the contractions were going to get stronger and faster.
Boy was she ever right!! my contractions were very hard and very strong, and I still had my pitocin running so it felt like things were happening so fast.
I was only about 2 CM but the pitocin was causing my contractions to be very painful and very quick so we decided to start my epidural now because they were staying regular and getting stronger.
The anesthesiologist came in and placed the epidural. I felt the medicine take place only on the left side and partially on the right side. Which, they said could happen and they wanted me to lay on my right side to get the epidural to spread if it would.
I felt slight pains in my right side but they weren`t so bad.
This epidural stayed in till about 3-4 pm and than it wore off.
So they called in another anesthesiologist, at this time I am dilated to 4cm and my contractions are about 1-2 minutes apart. This Anesthesiologist assessed me and said that the first epidural wasn`t in the right place so he took it out and started a new one.
This one took place within a few moments and both sides were pretty numb. My left side was VERY dead to the world because of the first epirdural.
I was feeling pretty good after this epirdural.
After about an hour, the nurse came in and assessed me and stated I was around 7 cm and 100% effaced. I was in zero station and was moving along quite nicely. She also stated that my son had a full head of hair and that he was a big boy who was showing to be posterior *his face up*
Around 6:30pm, the nurse came in with my doctor and another doctor for a consultation. They stated that my little boy was a little distressed, his heart rate would drop a bit when I had a contraction. They were also concerned that he was too big to pass through my pelvis and they may have to dislocate his shoulder if I wanted to deliver vaginally.
I looked at my husband and I said that if it would be safer for him to get out via Cesarian than that is what we would do. I just wanted him to be safe and if that was how he was going to come out than that is how he was going to come out.
Both doctors said that they would get me into the surgery by 8pm. Within 20-30minutes after they left I started to feel some pretty strong contractions, which I was under the impression that if you had an epidural that was working correctly, you wouldn`t feel any pain. I told the nurse that I was in a tremendous amount of pain. With every contraction, I honestly felt that I was being shot through the lower right side of my back into my lower Abdomen. The pain was unbearable. The nurse said she would call the anesthesiologist and let him know. She than came in to tell me that I would not be able to get into my surgery until after 9pm because they had an emergency appendectomy that my anesthesiologist was in on.
I was stuck in that room, screaming and crying for over an hour in severe pain. My husband was in shock and I could tell he felt nervous and anxious and scared because I couldn`t quit crying and I was starting to hyperventilate with each contraction.
Finally they brought me down to surgery, and they took care of my pain and got me set up for surgery.
My husband came in sat next to me.
The c-section was quick and painless. (finally I was pain free) and my son was born at 9:39 PM. PERFECT and PINK. He cried instantly and had an apgar of 9.
He was huge, as they thought and he was actually stuck inside so they had a harder time to get him out.
He is perfect in every way! And he gets more adorable every day.
