Samiya`s birthstory
On October 21, 2009, the day my baby shower was suppose to be, at 7:00am my water broke, so I went to L&D. Once there I was admitted and pitocin was started to induce labor because of the rupture of membranes and I was not contracting. I recieved the pitocin for about 3 hours before it was shut off due to decels in my baby`s heart rate with each contraction. They then started an amnioinfusion because of the decels, but had to shut it off because of no fluid return. After the pitocin was shut off my labor started on its own, with contactions every 2 minutes. I was dilated to 2cm when I arrived, and remained there for hours. They manually stretched my cervix because the scar tissue and at 7pm I had dilated to 5cm. Previous to this they had discussed a c-section because my baby`s heart rate continued to dip with contractions. At 7:30 I told the nurse I was having lots of pressue as if I had to push, so she checked me and I was 6cm. 15 minutes later I told my mother to tell the nurse I had to push. The nurse came immediately and checked me and the look on her face said it all. I was complete. She had talked to my doctor, who was at home, after the check at 7:30 when I was dilated to 6cm. She called my doctor back and told me not to push, that he`d be there in 15 minutes. I was able to hold off pushing, but my baby`s heart rate dropped to 55 and the resident that was present decided it was best to deliver. 2 pushes later my little girl was here. I thought pushing would be the hardest part, but it was the easiest. My little girl came out and did not cry and was Barney purple. They put her on me for a second, the wisked her away to the warmer were she recieved stimulation and oxygen. I was so afraid that something was wrong with her that I didn`t realize something was wrong with me. My doctor had arrived by this time and he told me that they needed to take me to surgery because my cervix had torn badly and I was bleeding heavily. While they took me to OR I cried and cried because I hadn`t gotten a chance to really hold my baby. Once in the OR the put me to sleep. I had to get 2 units of blood and a volume expander due to the blood loss. After I got back to my room from recovery, my baby was not in my room, but my fiance` and parents were. I flipped out wanting to know where my baby was. The finally told me she was fine, but had to go to the NICU due to a slight temp. Before they took me to my postpartum room my nurse took me to the NICU to see my baby. I was able to hold her and see for myself that she was ok and I finally felt complete.
