So I went to work Nov 5... at that point being 5 or 6 days overdue.. It was more painful than usual.. I work as a waitress and must stay on my feet most of the shift... That night I started having having contractions that got to be as close as 6 minutes apart.. When they stayed 6 minutes apart for an hour I decided I should go ahead and call into work. My shift starts at 5:50 am, by 7:00 am the contractions had stopped completely. I called my boss later that day and told her it was a false alarm and that I'd be into work the next day. That same evening around 7 o'clock I lose what I thought was all of my mucuos plug. I thought about calling my boss back in case I went into labor but the contractions I was having at that point were not regular. So I go to work Saturday morning and it is by far the hardest shift I worked through out the pregnancy except for when I had morning sickness. The pressure I felt in my pelvis and lower abdomen was intense. I ask my boss to go ahead and cover Sunday morning for me. Sunday happens without much of anything happening aside from losing the rest of my mucous plug which was a lot thicker and had blood in it.. Late Sunday evening I decide to go ahead and watch two horror movies about baby girls "Orphan" and a lesser known indie called ":Grace" I still don't know why I did that to myself but I think it's worth noting! After the movies Mark and I went to bed... I was woke up several times by powerful contractions but was too out of it and tired to time them... Woke up at 7:00 am to get Travis ready for school.. Suddenly was taken by powerful urge to clean and organize.. Had Mark help me and we really got the place in order in a short ammount of time.. During the housework I was having very painful contractions.. They got between 4 and 6 minutes apart. Everything I read had said that when you're in "real" labor your contractions will get more powerful and regular and there will be no mistaking what is going on.. Well let me just say to whoever reads this , that isn't always the case. Around 11 am I was getting fustrated and unsure about whether or not to go into labor and delivery. The contractions hurt a lot when sitting down but would be farther apart... When standing the contractions became closer together but not as intense...Finally decided to go ahead and get checked and we were at l&d by noon. After getting admitted and checked I was told I was already 5 cm! She was still up pretty high however. The midwife there told me she was going to assist the doctor in a c-section and she'd be back in about 45 minutes and then I'd have my baby. I guess she assumed that because it was my second child that it would go fairly quickly. Well I labored on passed that midwife's shift and met the new team taking care of me.. I had this wonderful nurse named Ashley and the midwife's name was Rachel. At around 9:00 pm I had stalled at 8 cm for a couple of hours..Ashley mentioned pitocin and I started to get nervous...I had pitocin and epidural with my son and ended up pushing for three hours, it was terrible...My contractions were awful while laying down for some reason but decided to go ahead and have some stadol... That stuff is neat btw.....By 11:00 pm I was still at 8 cm so decided to get out of bed and try walking...After midnight was checked again - still 8. The next few hours were a blur, I know I recieved more stadol at some point.... I'd say around 3 am the pain was exhausting me and I began to feel like I was losing my sanity.. I caved in and asked for an epidural. Ashley had to empty a whole bag of water into my IV before I could get the epidural which gave me a bad case of the shakes.. After the epidural was in Ashley had me scoot up on the bed as best as I could with numb lower regions and as I did that my water broke.. There was meconium in the water and I started to get a bit nervous. At that point I started to feel a lot of pressure in my bottom..I called Ashley to the room a few times and she was sort of non chalant about it...By the last time I called her I knew there was no holding back anymore.. She checked me and I was complete. She called Rachel to the room and I started pushing.. Mid push two people randomly walked in and distracted me...One was a respitory specialist and I guess the other was the baby nurse....I think altogether there were 4 or 5 serious business pushes and out came Layla.... When her head was out and Rachel stopped me, the burning was so intense and I screamed "FOR THE LOVE OF GOD GET HER OUT OF ME",, and then I remember praying to God to hurry and give me another contraction... Every second felt like a year at that point. It took a minute to see Layla because Rachel was suctioning all the goop and poop out of her mouth and nose and such... she gave her a quick wipe down and put her on me.. She had hair all over her back and ears.... She looked like a little monkey. Even though she pooped in the water her breathing and everything was fine.. I only had a small tear and shortly after felt almost as if nothing had happened. She's been home for almost two weeks now and we're all adjusting to each other but for the most part are doing well :)
