Phoenix-`s birthstory

My water broke on Saturday, May 31st at around 4:30am. I remember laying in bed half asleep thinking that I had wet the bed. Then water kept on gushing out and I realized that my water broke. Our midwife called throughout the day to see how I was doing. It was discouraging, because every time she called she would tell me that I was too calm to be in active labor....and at the time I thought the contractions were pretty damn painful. I remember thinking to myself `If it`s this painful already and my midwife is telling me that I sound calm, how bad is it going to get? and what the hell have I gotten myself into??!!`

By that around 10:00pm that night things hadn`t really progressed that much, so our midwife told my husband to get caster oil to speed things up. (caster oil is a natural laxative which is often used to speed up labor...but it also gives you bad diarrhea) Boy did my contractions get stronger after that!! We were up the whole night, and I was doing everything I could to keep my mind off of the pain. (BTW a hot shower really helped!!)

The midwife came and checked me around 9:30am on Sunday, June 1st. I remember thinking to myself `If she tells me that I`m still in early labor and that I sound calm one more time I`m gonna kill myself.!!` Luckily I was dilated at 6!! I was sooo relieved and happy. Everything progressed really quickly after that. I jumped into our nice warm hot tub, dimmed the lights, the environment was really calm and peaceful... and about 20 min later I got the urge to push. I pushed for 15 min and Phoenix was born! It didn`t tear at all and I didn`t need an epesiodomy. It was awesome -- Bryan got to catch him and put him on my chest. After that, I laid in bed, relaxed and breast fed Phoenix. Having a home water birth was such an amazing experience!!
