Aiden`s birthstory

I woke up at 5 o`clock to get ready to go to the hospital and have my induction done. I was nervous and anxious and somehow very calm all at the same time. I arrived at the hospital at 6:10am, for my 6:00 apt. Nurses there were just kind of ready to go. I was walked straight into the delivery room. I was not prepaired for that, I thought for sure I would have to go through being triaged! So, I went in and changed into my gown and laid on the bed. I was told my midwife would be there later to see how I was doing. Nurses went through and told me about different types of pain reliefe that would be available, drew some blood to send for labs, and hooked me up to my bag of IV fluids. By 7:30 I told called and told my mom where I was and that they had not started my pitocin. She said she would be there by 9am since nothing was really going on yet and I was still pretty comfortable. 8 am they hooked me up and turned on my pitocin drip. My mom arrived about 8:30 and we watched the baby`s heart rate and my contractions come and go for a little while. My midwife came in at about 9:30 and checked me, I was at 4cm and 70% effaced. Seeing as that was a cm of progress over what we had been two days before for relatively little pain, we were happy. Libby told us that she was on call, but had patients in the office until 10:30 and that between 1 and 2:30 another doctor would be there to catch because she had an appointment, when she left she said she would be back after lunch to break the water. About 10:15 Tom and Tracie show up to witness the birth. Everone is just in there talking and having a good time while the pitocin is doing its thing. The contractions were comming harder and closer together, I thought it was time to bring in the epidural at about 11 o`clock. My mom goes out and tells the nurse to go ahead and call the anestesiologist. I had decided that the epidural would be my pain management again because the nurse had explained that with the pitocin the epidural wouldn`t slow it down, and also, the pain medication would just really make me relax and not do anything for the actual pain of the contractions. Anywho, I know the anestesia guy has been called and I try to stay relaxed through my contractions. As time went by the contractions just kept getting closer together and stronger. Half an hour had passed and no epidural, the nurse comes in and says it won`t be much longer, the doc is waking up a surgical patient. Okay. Another half hour passes and I am trying to talk myself through contractions `Okay Tracy, just relax, breath, the more tense you are the more it hurts` That was my mantra. By the time I would be done muttering that the contractions would start easing up and I would tell myself that I was okay and the doctor would be there before the next one. So after my mom goes and hangs out around the nurses station pleading for my epidural the guy finally shows up about 12:10 and tells everyone but one person to leave the room; Tom stayed with me because everyone thought he would be the best stabilizer. I laid in bed through a few more contractions as the doctor went over all the release and whatnot. I couldn`t tell you what complaint they give you a shot for after two days, but I dont even care. I get all set up on the edge of the bed and let them know when I was having my last contraction that I would be able to move through and then it was time for hunched over staying still no matter what. 12:20 they started putting it in, two missed spots and a springy ligament later I finally had my epidural in. 12:47 I felt my last contraction and the midwife was coming back in the room. Wonderfully oblivious to any contractions Libby went to check me and her eyes went big. She turned to the nurse and goes she is 9, then she says to everyone `There is going to be a baby in the next 15 minutes` and the room panics. Libby checked my cervix with my next contraction and goes `Shes complete, lets see what happens if she pushes` and then turns to room and goes `Scratch the 15, make it 10` so, they have me push with the next contraction and I hear everyone going `It`s the head!` The midwife tells me to push again and all the sudden in the middle of the push I realized Tom wasnt there and stopped pushing and yelled out `Where is Tom?!` no one else knew he was missing , but I didnt want him to miss it! A few seconds later he was back in the room, he had gone to the bathroom when the midwife said 10 minutes. Next push the baby was out and laying on my chest crying. Everyone in the room was on on the phone crying and I was staring at that perfect little purple baby just going `He`s crying, he`s okay!`. I was moved up to mother/baby a few hours later with my perfect little doll baby and we are living happily ever after :)
