Well...I wasn't due until Nov 8th. I went to my doc's appt on October 8th and nothing much was happening...no effacement, no dilation. I thought I would be pregnant forever! Then, last Monday I started having what I thought were BH contractions. nothing regular, my tummy would just get a little hard and i felt a little pressure. The next couple of days they got a little more painful and i felt a pulling sensation from below and pain in my back and pelvis. I had a doctor's appointment on thursday so i thought i'd wait it out b/c it wasn't that unbearable. I went to work Thursday morning and noticed the pains were about 5 mins apart! my doc's appointment wasn't until 2:10! By the time i left for the doc at 1:45 the pains were only 2 mins apart and more intense. Luckily I emailed my hubby to come home from work to go with me b/c he works an hour away. We get to the doc and they gave me my weekly NST...and the contractions were going off the paper every 2 minutes or less! The doc checked me and said they would probably send me to the hospital to give me somthing to stop the contractions--then he checked me. I was 100% effaced and already 6 cm!!!! He sent me to the hospital alright---but to have a baby!
So I get to the hospital at about 3:30 and they wheel me up to the room. I was having pretty strong contractions and I got my epidural within an hour of being there. It was AMAZING! I went from feeling one contraction to literally nothing! That slowed the contractions so I was given some pitocin. At 8:45 they broke my water--lovely feeling! At 10:00 I was 8 cm, and by 11:00 I was fully dilated and ready to push! I underestimated that part--boy was it tough--but I guess I had it easier than a lot of people b/c it only took an hour or so. He finally crowned and was born at 12:04 am on october 17th weighing 6 lbs 15 oz and 18" long--not bad for being a little over 3 weeks early! It was the most amazing thing to see him being born. Daddy cut the cord.
He had to spend his first night in the NICU b/c he was grunting with his breathing. It was hard seeing him in an incubator with an IV...but I know it was for the best. he joined us in our room the following evening. We ended up staying an extra day b/c he developed jaundice and they wanted him under photo therapy for a day. His numbers came down and were were allowed to come home yesterday, October 21st. Now the fun and challenging part is beginning :) we are our own small happy family now!
