Nikkolas-James`s birthstory
I started having contractions in the early evening but nothing consistent and definitely nothing painful. By 11:00pm, the contractions were still not that painful but were coming about every 8 minutes on average give or take. At 12:30am, after having those same contractions every 8 minutes or so and not so painful, I decided we should just go to the hospital to see what was going on. We called my mother in law and she drove over to watch our other two kids, and through a horrible snow storm that had already dumped 14 inches of snow on us. She got to our house at 1am and we left, through that same snow storm. What normally takes us 20 minutes to get to the hospital, took us 50 minutes. During the drive, my contractions became immediately consistent at 5 minutes apart like the minute we left the driveway. They still weren`t that painful though, just tense. L&D put me right into a room at 2:00am and the nurse checked my cervix immediately, before even getting hooked to the monitors and I was 6 1/2 cm dilated. 1/2 hour later I was 7 1/2 cm dilated. 1/2 hour later (3am) I was 8cm dilated...and still getting through bearable contractions but this is when they gave me the epidural, even though I don`t think I really needed it now that I look back, but I took it anyhow. At 3:15am, I was 9cm, the doctor broke my water, and I was at 10cm right after that. I started pushing at 3:30am and 14 minutes later with 4 good pushes, my beautiful son was born at 3:44am weighing 7 lbs 3.5oz, 20 inches long and healthy as can be. I pretty much was laughing and talking through the entire process with my husband, the nurses, and my best friend (whom is the Godmother)! It was beautiful. No rips or tears down there, just a smooth delivery and I am so thankful and blessed as is all my family! This is our last child as it makes number 4 for me, however, I have not permanently closed the doors on the option as I had changed my mind and opted out of my tubal the next day. The sky is the limit and if God wants us to have another baby, we`ll be ready to bring another one into our lives, our family, and this world! Thank you for the most precious gifts, our children!
