I went to my weekly prenatal appointment on Wednesday the 17th. My midwife asked me if I have been leaking any fluid. I did leak some fluid that morning but figured it was discharge. When I looked in my panties it was clear. But I have been leaking all kinds of things this whole pregnancy! She tested it and it WAS amniotic fluid.

She told me that if I don`t got into labor by tonight I have to be set up for an induction at 9pm tonight because once a membrane ruptures, your risk of infection rises. I was excited, but really sad at the same time. I DID NOT want to be induced. I wanted to make this labor as natural as possible. I remember being very emotional that day and looking at my belly.

9pm rolls around and I`m at the hospital. They hook me up to the pitocin...I had to keep this iV in me the whole time AND be on monitors the whole time too. It was pretty uncomfortable. I was already having little contractions all day. The pitocin just made them more regular and I got some sort of sleep. Actually I really didn`t sleep. I was so nervous and emotional. My husband got up around 5 am and we just hung out.

The contractions started getting stronger. But very tolerable! I had back labor too! My dad flew in from Florida and my mom drove up from LA. We all hung out and laughed and I was breathing through each contraction. I did this for about 15 hours. The nurse told me that active labor hasn`t hit me yet. And I was like, `yeah right! My contractions are like 2 minutes apart.` She laughed and said...`you will know when it really hits.` Whatever. She told me to sit in this rocking chair after I was bouncing on this ball. I sat in the rocking chair and then POP! I felt this huge pop that hurt like hell and then all my water just came gushing out! I ran over to my bed and got on hands and knees and the water kept coming out the top of my shorts and bottom of my shorts. It was like a f*n fountain waterfall. And then thats when the real contractions hit. That nurse knew what she was doing. She knew a trick or something about that rocking chair.

OK, this pain is like nothing I could of ever imagined. I don`t want to scare anyone, but I believe it was like this because of the pitocin that induced my labor. I don`t think my body was ready to be in labor. My moans were so crazy sounding. I sounded like I was getting exorcised. It was like half demonic and half orgasmic. My husband said my eyes were rolling back into my head. I looked up at the monitor and it showed my contractions were off the charts. 1 -2 minutes apart and lasting close to a minute for each one. I tried to sit in the hot tub. I tried hands and knees. I tried different shit for 3 hours. The Dr. came into check me and I was only like 3 cm!!! That is when I started to cry with contractions. I tried my hardest not to panic. I didn`t panic, but felt on edge so I asked for the narcotic. I asked for half of it... and it did nothing. Then the other half... and didn`t touch the pain or take my edge off. I didn`t want an epidural. And that kept going through my head. But when I heard that I was only 2-3 cm. I threw in the towel. I handled the pain for over 3 hours and I couldn`t go anymore. Especially hearing that this would get worse.

OK. So I got the epidural, and it didn`t f*n work! The doc hit a spot on my back that only paralyzed my right leg. So I`m paralyzed and feel the contractions at their fullest. He told me that he was going to do a spinal block which will definetly numb me, and they are going to have to re-do the epidural. What?! RE-DO it all! I had to get poked during the contractions. I finally agreed to do it.

This is when the shit hit the fan!......

They did the spinal block and I began shaking. I thought it was from nerves. Then everything in the room got so loud. I couldn`t talk, because the sound of my own voice was too loud. Then I started falling in and out of consiousness. That`s when I noticed that about 10 people rushed into my room. They flipped the lights on! Everyone looked like they were in a panic. I tried to yell for everyone to shut up because it was hurting my ears. I knew something wasn`t right. Not only could I not feel my body, but I was shaking uncontrollably and they were grabbing drugs to bring my blood pressure up. My blood pressure hit 70. That is extremely low, and someone with that BP is in shock. (I`m a paramedic as well, and I know what kinds of interventions they have to do for someone in my state) They shot me up with epinephrine. My heart started palpitating. That`s when I started getting this feeling of doom and told the Dr. that I think I`m going to die. (My mom reminded me of that) It was really terrifying. Things went wrong and I was aware of it through the slips in and out of conciousness.

Finally, things got under control. They had to monitor my blood pressure every 2 minutes for the rest of the time. The spinal block wore off...the pain came back and then infused the epidural medication. The pain got back to tolerable.

A couple hours later I felt this pressure in my ass. I told the nurse and she told me I pooped the bed! Oh god...what now. I already felt like an old woman. They had to put a foley catheter in me already, then I go ahead and shit the bed? It sucked. BUT, that meant my little guy was getting closer! They checked me and they decided to get things in order for delivery. They told me to go ahead and do a practice push to see if I will even be able to push. (I was really nervous that I wouldn`t be able to). I did my practice push and they started yelling for me to stop! I had a great push! Finally, I got a break! I started pushing at 3:00am and Mr. man came out at 3:10am! I couldn`t believe it!!! I saw him and his eyes were WIDE open and he was just wailing! He had the cord wrapped around his neck 2 times, but he powered through it and was just beautiful! I tasted his first tears.

It was a TRULY AMAZING time. All the bullshit I went through didn`t matter. I didn`t get the labor I wanted...I had shit happen.... but at that moment...it didn`t matter. Even now, it doesn`t matter. He is happy and healthy and loving and everything I could ever imagine. I am getting emotional. Thats a new thing for me now too...I love it!
