Lucas-Raymond`s birthstory
Well, my water broke at 8:00p.m. on Friday night. Bill hadn`t gotten home from work yet and I couldn`t help but start crying and freaking out a bit. But I pulled myself together and got the girls to clean up their room and the twins room without them realizing too much. Bill got home about 8:45 and we packed up the kids and sent them with friends. Then Bill and I cleaned the house and put together the crib that had come in the mail the day before (yes, put the crib together right when you get it because that wasn`t fun at all). I was having small contractions but nothing major. We arrived at the hospital at 12:30 a.m. and got registered. They checked me and confirmed my water had broke and said they would see if I progressed on my own if not they would start pitocin at 5:00 a.m. Well, nothing happened which was okay because I needed some sleep (got about 3 hours). They started the pitocin and labor started very very slowly. It has never taken me so long. They kept upping the pit and I kept changing positions trying to help everything along. I had to stay on the monitors but I could sit in a rocker, stand or be on the bed. Everything was fairly bearable until about 4. Then they started getting stronger but I could still handle them. About 4:50 or so he head finally came into the bc. The nurse gave me stadol (sp?) which just took the edge off but allowed me to think and keep myself relaxed enough to let him come down. I was about 10 more contractions, each time his head went further down and I thought he had to be about out. I pushed maybe once or twice. They actually told me not to push because the doctor wasn`t ready. As painful as that part was it was only about 20 to 30 minutes and the relief of giving birth is incredible. He came out fine and was breathing a little bit too fast but they went ahead and let me nurse him and he calmed down. After that he was fine and we spent less than 24 hours at the hospital afterwards because I wanted to get home and the doctor say he was perfectly healthy. I was glad I didn`t get the epidural it really was only about 1 1/2 of really hard work but the labor was long and I am exhausted from it. Still those who want to go natural I totally suggest it.
