Coleman-Heath`s birthstory
Darrin and I left Monday morning at 4 am for the hospital. I checked in the hospital at 5 am. They monitored me for an hour before inducing. I was contracting every 5 minutes on my own. I thought I was the night before, but then decided I had just over done it cleaning all day. They induced me at 7 am and broke my water about 7:30. I was measuring 3 cm then. Around 9:00 I got my epidural. At noon I was at a 5. Around 1:15 my butt started feeling like it was falling asleep (even though I had an epidural and wasn`t supposed to be able to feel anything below my back). I also thought my catheder was coming out. After 2 other nurses came in and tried to make me more comfortable my regular nurse came in and I told her what was going on. Turns out what I was feeling was my baby. At 1:45 I was at a 10 and started pushing about 2:00.
Coleman Heath was born at 2:28 pm. He was 9 lbs, 12 oz and 22 in. long. His head was 38 cm (about 15 in.) around. Needless to say it hurt like hell, but it was well worth it.
Because he didn`t spend very long in the birth canal he didn`t get all the fluid squeezed out of his lungs. He was diagnosed with TTN (basically it`s rapid breathing). Because he was having a hard time breathing he couldn`t eat. So the first night he had to spend in the Level II nursery hooked up to an IV and to monitors that were watching his resperation and oxygen levels. It broke my heart to see him hooked up to all those tubes even though I knew he was going to be ok. He got to come back to our room the next morning but had to have IV and antibiotic treatments every 12 hours. By Wednesday he was doing great and we got to go home Thursday.
