Kathryn-Paige-Laurel-Rice`s birthstory
Oh wow! I am mostly recovered from my ordeal now, so...On October 13 my husband and I had just attended out final childbirth class, when we got home we were very tired, so we had something to eat and went to sleep, well, I woke up at 3:50 am, with a wet `popping feeling` between my legs, like sometimes I get with my period, so I figured I`d go take a look and see what that was. I felt on the mattress with my fingers, and felt this moist spot, was thinking uh oh, the hubby would surely yell at me about this. So I get up to go pee (cause I felt like I had to), well, i grabbed a towel and kind of held it there, while i waddled to the bathroom. i remembered someone told me about a little test to see if it is your water or urine, so i done that ( the test is simple, is to sit on the toilet like you are peeing, and try to top the flow, if you can its urine, if not, then its probably the waters)...so anywayI did this lttle test, and when I stood up, it gushed out of me (couldn`t control that flow), so I had a huge clue right there. This is the first baby, and I didn`t want to alarm anyone unneccesairily (sp), and I was unsure, so I hopped on here, told the girls what I was experiencing, and they told me to wake up hubby, and make my calls. I was still worried about him yelling at me for getting this mess everywhere, but he never did. I took almost a roll of toilet paper and mopped up the bathroom floor silently. I went after advisement to go wake him up, by this time it was 5:45 in the morning. I made the call to L+D, and they said to come on in, which totally freaked me out. So we get ready to go to the hospital, and mind you no bag was packed, as I should have had three weeks to go. Well, hubby reminded me it would be a good idea to CALL MY DOCTOR. I still can`t believe I almost forgot that. So even though I felt guilty about calling him so freaking early in the morning, I did call him. I apologized profusely for calling at such an ungodly hour. I was actually afraid my doctor would yell at me for calling hm so early...I`ve always gotten yelled at for needing to do something like that, which is why I was nervous about waking anyone, or calling...so we get to the hospital at 6:30 in the morning so they admitted me with nary a question. They brought some paper that I heard them say will trun bright blue in reaction if your waters are present (I had worn a pad to get there)...well it turned bright blue...she goes oh yeah, its your waters....so they checked me, and I was already dialated to 3! They asked me if I was having contractions, i was like, I don`t think so...well turns out I was, i just had no clue about them, cause no one ever warned me or told me that they can just feel like intense menstrual cramps. I went, well, i don`t think so, I am getting a menstrual crampy feeling. I felt stupid cause those were contractions, and I had no clue. When I got to 4 or 5 (dialated) I could not take the pain anymore, I opted for an epidural ( i almost made my poor hubby cry with my being in pain, needless to say i LOVED my epidural. then we just sat and waited and waited and waited. then we waited some more. finally i was dialated to 10, and i could start pushing. that began at 8pm. i pushed for all i was worth. i remember the whole team was saying how good i was doing. she was slowly making her way down the birth canal. i could hear a liquidy movement when i would push. that was neat and freaky hearing that one. towrds the end, she was having some distress, as she kind of got stuck. they had to help her so they bought out the trusty vaccum. at this point she was causing some severe pain, so was glad they `helped her along` i do rememer bawling like a baby myself for almost the first hour. it seems like it took them for freaking ever to sew me up. i had had the epi, so i could not feel them give me an episiotomy (which they did), and i ripped a bit beyond that, but i had no clue, but it seems llike it took them forever to sew me up. hubby hogged her for the first hour. he even cut the cord. she was given a 9 on the apgar table. if anyone has anyquestions, or i left out things, please ask. my mind is just now returning to normal.
